Would you say that this statistic is for more mature lists?

great post!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience in a giveaway event.

Basically the ‘format’ of the giveaways for the contributors, is to submit a gift with the intentions of building their own mailing list.

It’s the same concept that you have with the link to your optin form on this site (which by the way, doesn’t seem to be working)

With each gift that you want to download, you will need to fill out the form and subscribe to that list. You should have the option to opt out or unsubscribe from that list after you have downloaded whatever the product is.

Unfortunately, from a marketers perspective, unsubscribers are a part of the game.

If a person doesn’t like the content or promotions I am sending to them, they do have the option to unsubscribe.

Personally I take part in about 15-20 of these events each year. They are another great way to increase the number of readers to my newsletter.

Thanks,

Ron Barrett

I never use the email account to receive anything any more.

I think the proper way to do opt-in is to provide good content and value, we want to build relationship, not to pitch people all the products we never used before!

Just like blog, email is a very powerful tool to build relationship, and Andrew seems to be very “conservative” on sending me email, I think you can offer us more great products, I won’t mind getting more mail from you as long as they are Good!

Hi Becks,
You should feel sorry for the marketer building that list.
She just lost a prospect.

I’m sorry to hear about your frustrations with this prospect. I agree that an opt-in/opt-out option is essential. Great post!
