Is Your Business Prepared For The SEO Earthquake?
The thing about internet marketing is given the constantly changes, you can expect a lot of excitement (or stress) in the field.
If you’re relying on organic traffic generation methods, especially from the search engines, there have been recent developments which may cause a change in your strategy.
Some of these include:
- The Rise of Blackhole Seo
- Changes in ranking alogorithmn like Google PageRank (a number of websites and blogs saw their PR score drop by 1 or more in recent weeks) and Alexa rankings have fluctuated greatly since the system was change a number of months ago
- Looming changes Google plans to or has implemented since as lower weightage given to directory links (thanks Wil Reynolds for the heads-up), including paid Yahoo directory submissions.
Which can be like an earthquake sending ripples through your business and earnings if you’re not prepared.
I was speaking with Geordie Carswell, former RevenueWire CEO who’s now involved with his own affiliate marketing projects and his business is thriving, despite the negative indicators about the economy.
In most cases, even with the drop from Google’s PR and dip in Alexa rankings, traffic and conversion levels still remain strong within my websites.
In almost all cases, launching a new campaign or creating a new product will more than offset any hits (real or imagined) that arose because of a change in the search engine algorithmn.
The challenge in being a successful online marketer lies in being able to adapt to change and more importantly, staying ahead of the curve.
By adding new tactics and new strategies to what you’re already doing, you can more than overcome any negatives in the present or the future.

Andrew, I think your blog is also building on strong community, I bet Google on 10 ~ 20 of your overall traffic?
I rely more on Search Engine traffic, almost 50 are coming from the search engine! I am at great risk if I use more “black hat” method.
I think as long as we add value to the search engine and provide good content, it should be ok…However, I will diversify my traffic source very soon, try not to too rely on the search engine!

Excellent post and I totally agree. I also want to say that Geordie gave me some great advice about a year ago when I was freakin out stuff like this and he told me to focus my energy on building my business versus worrying and boy was he right!
Your article reminded me of that… Now, instead of checking stats 100 times a day and worrying about every slow day I have, I build more content and try different techniques to increase my traffic… you’re right on the money!

I tried reading a really lengthy article about the algorithm Google uses to rank pages, but ended up getting overwhelmed. I agree with you that releasing a new product, or trying some a new tactic to improve your SEO, is the best way for Internet marketers to survive the current economic climate. Great advice, Andrew!

I cried very little when I visited my mother last year when she was in palliative care at the end of her life here because I knew what was coming was going to be joyous. I sometimes get lost in the sadness of missing her physical presence, but I never lose that underlying feeling of happiness for her.
