What’s The Catch? http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/is-ppc-classroom-20-really-free-whats-the-catch/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/is-ppc-classroom-20-really-free-whats-the-catch/#comments Wed, 25 Feb 2009 07:36:14 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/?p=745 PPC Classroom 2.0, a program which incorporates pay-per-click training and affiliate marketing training, launched a couple of hours ago with a reported 13.6% conversion rate for the first 2,500 orders being processed. Over a period of 3 hours, 3,000 orders have been processed.

Not surprising given that the course’ creator’s Amit Mehta and Anik Singal have used the business model similar to “free trial” offers you see listed in the CPA networks.

If you’re ordering from the US, you get the course free and pay a $6.97 shipping and handling charge. If you’re overseas/international, you pay $9.97 for the s/h charges.

Is it’s really free?

Besides the 9 module PPC affiliate training course, a DVD training disc and other materials, you’ll also have access to website templates and a free ticket to the PPC Classroom Live workshop (I was there for the first one in Las Vegas and the speakers and material was excellent).

So yes, you will be getting all this stuff for essentially free (the shipping and handling charge pre-qualifies the lead quality).

But What’s The Catch?

If you look at the fine print, you’ll see that you get access to the “PPC Inner Circle” where you’ll get additional access to training at $97/month. You get the first month free with your PPC Classroom purchase.

So what I believe is that Amit and Anik will do their best to overdeliver on the content and help you get results to motivate you to stay in the program.

If you consciously apply the techniques from the course, I’m sure your profits will exceed the $1,200 per year you’ll be paying for the PPC Inner Circle access.

Will I make $10,000 a month after going through the training?

There’re a number of income claims on the sales page about folks making $5,000 a month, $20,000 a month (even $1,000 a day from my friend Josh Wexelbaum, owner of the Scrappy Business blog).

While you can achieve that, given that PPC essentially allows you to buy unlimited web traffic, you will need to work at it, likely putting in quite a bit of time to test, analyze and optimize your campaigns.

What you’re seeing on the sales page is what the top 1% of students are doing in the course. Use that as motivation to spur yourself to take results.

What will help is that Amit is very open in sharing the techniques, tools and strategies he uses in his own business, and being able to replicate a fraction of what he’s achieved will move most affiliates to the next level in their income level.

The major takeaway is to take massive action, in order to get massive results.

If you’re looking for strategies to scale your affiliate business and bring your business to the next level, be sure to check out PPC Classroom 2.0.

Amit Mehta and Anik Singal’s PPC Classroom 2.0 Product Review http://whoisandrewwee.com/payperclick-ppc/amit-mehta-and-anik-singals-ppc-classroom-20-product-review/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/payperclick-ppc/amit-mehta-and-anik-singals-ppc-classroom-20-product-review/#comments Wed, 15 Oct 2008 21:29:26 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/?p=681 You’ve probably seen numerous blog posts and received even more emails about Amit Mehta and Anik Singal’s PPC Classroom product launch and might want to get an idea if it’s all it claims to be.

ppc classroom

The product which had been speculated to run into the thousands during the product’s pre-launch phase, has finally been revealed to cost only $77 (accurate at the time of this blog post, but might be revised…).

What do you get from that?

A comprehensive 9-module course spanning topics like:

  • Marketing research, including finding and screening affiliate offers
  • Keyword research
  • Direct linking vs creating landing pages
  • Setting up your Google AdWords campaign
  • Designing landing pages optimized for high conversions
  • Understanding and enhancing your Google quality score (QS)
  • Launching your PPC campaign
  • Introducing split testing into your campaign (to further increase conversions)
  • PPC bid optimization strategies

Having worked with Amit on a PPC coaching program for a select group of clients previously, I have seen firsthand how he goes through in a detailed, step-by-step manner the system which he has developed and follows.

Granted about 60% of the course material might be found on Amit’s SuperAffiliateMindset blog or in Google AdWords documentation or during his presentations at events like the first PPC Classroom live event in Vegas last year or in his Affiliate Summit presentations.

What makes Amit different from other affiliate marketers is how he goes about giving you a system with step-by-step detailed instructions on setting up your PPC affiliate campaigns.

I say “first hand” because as a PPC newbie, I was the “guinea pig” during our coaching process, and I got direct instructions from Amit as I was setting up the campaign (and got feedback and pointers when I messed up).

By the second week of his guided coaching, I was able to break even on my PPC spend, and turn a small profit.

Where I think Amit is relentless is in optimizing his campaigns, especially in going “a mile deep” to extract the maximum profit from each niche he’s involved in.

[If you’ve listened to his recent PPC Classroom interviews, you’d know that the bulk of his income comes from just THREE niches].

If you’re looking for great value, you can’t go wrong with his PPC Classroom course.

Where I think PPC Classroom stands out from the pack of similar products in the market is the business management elements he’s added to the course.

In particular, it’s how your structure your business that will ultimately create the lifestyle and the income you desire.

If you look at the PPC Classroom’s sales page, I’m refering to bonus #9, #10 and #11 – which deal with:

  • The super affiliate mindset (also the name of his blog)
  • Time management and productivity secrets
  • How to build a super affiliate dream team

The “Super Affiliate Millionaire Code” covers the mental skills that successful affiliates need to possess. Having the technical and theoretical knowledge is one thing, but having the “inner game” skills or mental mindset is another.

A new season of “The Pickup Artist” has recently debuted on VH1 and not suprisingly, successful pickup artists and successful affiliates have a lot in common. In this report, Amit covers the strategies he uses to get himself “in the zone” to suceeded.

The second guide “Time management and productivity secrets” might as well be entitled “the lazy affiliate’s guide to success”. In it, he talks about his lifestyle, sleeping 8-9 hours a day and working 4-6 hours a day.

Here’s a hint. I’ve often written that quality overrides quantity in most cases. Amit likewise similarly shows through what he does in his own business, how you can accomplish more in your business (and personal life) with less time.

Amit reveals that taking time out to plan your tasks and projects is responsible for a big chunk of his success.

If you’ve been to affiliate conferences, you’ll notice that the trend seems to be for successful affiliates to be over their ideal weight. In this guide, Amit reveals several methods he uses to manage his physiology or physical states, including his diet, health and nutrition, and maximizing his energy and concentration levels.

The third report on building a Super Affiliate Dream Team will be an important reference for experienced affiliates who’re building their businesses and bringing them to a new level.

Almost every business owner will know that the key to scaling and growing your business will usually lie in either:

  • Automating your business systems through computers and software (as top affiliate John Hasson has done)
  • Building a team and/or outsourcing tasks to specialists

Regardless of your choice, it’s important to focus on your role as a project manager or overseer, rather than to go down the solopreneur or do-it-yourself route.

Amit provides specific examples of how he conceptualized, planned, outsourced and launched a project from start-to-finish, and smart marketers will be able to piece together their own team building or outsourcing framework from the steps laid out.

Aside from the core materials which will give a strong foundation to new PPC marketers, and give an insight into Amit’s marketing techniques, in my opinion, experienced internet marketers will probably gain the most from the 3 additional reports dealing with the business management and business growth elements of your internet business.

Be sure to check out Amit Mehta and Anik Singal’s PPC Classroom 2.0.

If you’re a new or experienced blogger, and you’ve seen the pre-launch publicity and watched the set up videos, you might be wondering “So what? I know how to use Fantastico and do a 1-click install of WordPress”

As a blogger who’s been posting regularly since July 2006, I’ve found that know most of the info regarding how to set up your blog, how to optimize it for search engine indexing and SEO…BUT the content that I’m looking forward to checking out is where Ros and Anik will be giving your their take on how THEY generate traffic and monetize their blogs.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from participating in a number of closed-door masterminds, it’s that often just ONE strategy or tip could be responsible for doubling or tripling your results in your business. It’s not just any old tip either, but hearing from someone who’s experienced and has done it before (they’ve done it multiple times in most cases), can help unlock the bottleneck you’re facing in your business.

So yes, I’ll say that if you have ONE takeaway from any book, course or program that helps you bring your business to the next level, it will have been worth it.

The other advantage of a program that has a webinar component (Blog Classroom has 4 webinars scheduled) is that you get to ask your burning questions during the question-and-answer component (it might be a live Q&A session or via emails).

Anik SingalHere is a predictor of success – you can either wait for the presenter to give their presentation and ask a question based on their content. OR you could find out the topic ahead of time, do your OWN research, maybe even do some testing BEFORE the call, and get specific advice on how to enhance your efforts.

That’s the difference between waiting for something to happen and MAKING THINGS HAPPEN. Which camp do you want to be in?

My buddy, Amit Mehta and I have spend the last 2 weeks brainstorming on how we can add value to the Blog Classroom course, and we’ve come up with a booster “4 part Advanced Blogging Strategies Webinar Series”

Here is what we will be offering:

  1. Little Known & Unorthodox Techniques to Quickly & Easily Explode Your Blog Traffic
  2. How to Create a Fanatical Reader Base that will come Back to your Blog Again and Again, and Tell Other People about Your Blog.
  3. Why Most Bloggers Fail and How to Avoid Falling in This Trap
  4. How to Leverage Your Blog for Massive Profits & Not Just People Clicking on Adsense Ads

You’ll be getting the technical skills on the nuts-and-bolts of blogger from Blog Classroom, we’ll be equipping you with the inner game/mindset skills as well as some of our own techniques to bring your blogging to the next level.

If you want traffic AND increase your blog income, you MUST make sure you are in the Advanced Blogging Strategies Webinar series.

To qualify to receive this bonus (limited to the first 30), you will need to sign up through this:

Blog Tips From Super Affiliate Ros Gardner http://whoisandrewwee.com/blogging/blog-tips-from-super-affiliate-ros-gardner/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/blogging/blog-tips-from-super-affiliate-ros-gardner/#comments Tue, 29 Apr 2008 04:57:40 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/blogging/589/ I first got to know Ros Gardner through her book, the Super Affiliate Handbook, when I got started a couple of years ago.

So it was refreshing to hear her presentation at PPC Classroom Live! in Vegas last December where she talked about her network of sites, including her first foray into internet marketing, dating site Sage-Hearts.com.

[Incidentally, I was listening to a recording of the late Corey Rudl’s talk at Yanik Silver’s 30th Birthday Bash celebration about 5 years ago, where he was talking about Ros earning between $30,000 and $50,000 a month back then (which would’ve been about 2003!)]

If you didn’t make it to PPC Classroom Live! you would’ve missed out on the fact that most of her traffic is generated organically and free and her affiliate margins are pretty high.

What’s her secret? She primarily uses blogs as her online platform of choice, plus techniques – often overlooked by pure play SEO and PPC marketers – like email marketing and other social marketing techniques of choice.
Whether it’s her Net Profits Today, Sage Hearts or another site from her network, I’ve noticed that she’s primarily using WordPress.

It’s a good step that Anik Singal and Ros are launching the 2.0 version of Blog Classroom, so you can also check out how wordpress significantly reduces the learning curve to building your online presence (especially if you’re technicially-deficient like me.).

Anik and Ros have put up a number of tutorial videos up, and you can check them out.

PS: My buddy, Amit Mehta and I will be conducting a series of training session to incorporate branding and monetization into your blogging efforts.

Note: must sign up via either of our blogs to qualify for the bonus.

Affiliate Summit West 2008 Previews and Highlights http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/affiliate-summit-west-2008-previews-and-highlights/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/affiliate-summit-west-2008-previews-and-highlights/#comments Tue, 08 Jan 2008 20:06:57 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/affiliate-summit-west-2008-previews-and-highlights/ affiliate summitOver the weekend, I stayed up till 1:30 am to plan my flights and get my hotel confirmed for Shawn Collins and Missy Ward’s upcoming Affiliate Summit West, at the Rio in Las Vegas from Feb 24-26.

Unlike the past Affiliate Summit where I found myself hiking from Harrah’s (which has great prime rib) to Bally’s every morning, I was determined to get lodging at the Rio where the summit will be held.

Having said that, here’s some summit survival tips:

  • Take the bus if you have time and like to see the city. It costs about $6 for a 1-way ticket and stops at most of the major hotels. It does take a little time to get around though because it stops at quite a number of hotels.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes as you’ll be pounding the show floor if you’re diligent about meeting merchants and networks (I only got through about 25% of the booths the last time round because I was talking to and got waylaid by people as I was walking around).
  • Carry a backpack if you don’t want to be lugging your schwag all over the place. Especially if there’re booths giving out Plasma TVs, Xbox360s and Nintendo WIIs (I think most of us can go out and buy one, it’s just the ultra competitive streaks in every motivated affiliates that comes out when it comes to competitions…)

With that out of the way, and a 15 hour plane ride (I’m taking a direct Singapore-Los Angeles flight on a brand spanking new Airbus A380 this time) ahead, what’s in store at Affiliate Summit?

The fun begins before the event starts.

Anik Singal and his Affiliate Classroom team have organized Affiliate Classroom Live, a 1-day workshop for affiliate managers on Saturday 23 Feb. What’s more it’s free…Places are very limited though, so check out:

–> Anik Singal’s Affiliate Classroom Live

Chase the workshop with Brook Schaaf’s Affiliate Dinner. Expect to see a guest of honor. Expect to see the guest of honor roasted…What fun!

Is Affiliate Dinner a ponzi scheme? Here’s the answer

So day 1 of the summit kicks off with the “Affiliate Meet Market” from noon to 6pm. I missed this the last time because of a delayed flight, but I’m arriving a day early to make sure I am able to take part in the meet-and-greet and associated networking.

Here’s the floorplan for the Affiliate Meet Market. (PDF format)

Day 2 kicks off with Jason Calacanis’ keynote.

With Jason recently refering to “Affiliate Spam” “polluting” the search engines at the Paris Le Web seminar, you can expect some fireworks during the keynote.

One note about the presentations that follow. An overwhelming number of presentation proposals were submitted, with the result that about 4 presentations are simultaneously ongoing during each time slot. In many cases, you have great sessions going on at the same time.

I checked with Shawn and he mentioned that the sessions will be recorded and available for viewing later.

I’d suggest prioritizing your favorite sessions and making a beeline for them. In some cases I can see the majority of the crowd gravitating towards ONE session…

Forewarned is forearmed…

I’ve listed some of the sessions I personally am interested in attending:

video affiliate marketing

As I’ve been doing a number of podcast and vlogging (video blogging) lately, I’m keen to check this session out.

I met Buy.com’s Melissa Salas last Feb at ASW, and she present a pretty great show for Buy.com over at Buy.Tv.
(As of last October, on the BuyTV MySpace page it’s mentioned that “BuyTV was just informed that it has been picked up for local programming via Time Warner, Cox, Charter, DirecTV, Echostar, Dish Network and others – Sunday mornings at 11:30am PST”)

And you have a panel of other video marketing/video blogging folks on the panel.

wil reynolds

Seer Interactive’s Wil Reynolds is always a popular presenter, and I’m looking forward to checking out his presentation ahead of his session.

Day 3 kicks off with an “Ask the Experts” session:

ask the experts

I’m keen to talk to Heather Paulson about her new Paulson Management Group company.

A little later in the day, be sure to check out:

media panel

A media panel chaired by Revenue Magazine’s Lisa Picarille. Besides myself, you’ll also see Jim Kukral, Anik Singal and Valerie Stevens on the panel.

In parallel with the media panel is the Super Affiliate panel:

super affiliates

With the likes of Pepperjam’s Kris Jones, John Chow, Zac Johnson and Amit Mehta in attendance.

And if you’re not already torn between two or more sessions, consider that later in the afternoon, you’ll have the ABestWeb panel:

abestweb

With AbestWeb’s Haiko De Poel, AffiliateCrew’s Chuck Hamrick and Team Loxly’s Loxly AKA Deb Carney in attendance.

In the same time slot you have the social marketing panel:

social media marketing

With a Who’s Who of the blogosphere/social media space, like Sam Harrelson, Tris Hussey, Stephanie Agresta among others.

I would point out more highlights, but my fingers are worn-out from all that typing, so you might like to check out:

Leaving Las Vegas…And PPC Classroom Live! http://whoisandrewwee.com/payperclick-ppc/leaving-las-vegas/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/payperclick-ppc/leaving-las-vegas/#comments Wed, 12 Dec 2007 22:40:36 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/payperclick-ppc/leaving-las-vegas/ It’s been more than a week since I left Las Vegas after attending Anik Singal and Jeremy Palmer’s PPC Classroom Live.

So the question is “Was it worth a 20+ hour plane ride each way?”

Certainly a resounding YES!

I got to meet a bunch of great people and the stellar cast of speakers presented great content. Now it’s a matter of hunkering down and putting some of those ideas into practise.

The turnout was very respectable with the room filled to the gills…

Andrew Wee, Kirt Christensen, Greg Cesar

I look to Kirt Christensen as one of the pioneers in Internet Marketing, together with his partner, Terry Dean.

It was certainly illuminating to hear about his strategies for positioning yourself as a PPC management agency and it was pretty impressive hearing about some of the biggest Internet marketers he manages PPC campaigns for.

Greg Cesar is someone who’s in my mastermind and this was the first opportunity I got to meet him. It was refreshing to hear about some of his unconventional approaches to affiliate marketing, and he talked about how he uses one media channel (still untapped by almost all internet marketers) to go gang busters, especially on affiliate offers.

If anything, I am finding that the networking opportunity far outweighs the learning from the content sessions. I met Andre Chaperon who was top affiliate for the PPC Classroom promotion, Ryan Kaltman (AKA “Magic Ryan”, the Rich Jerk’s business partner). Ryan’s like a ball of energy and having him show gross YouTube videos during a posh dinner certainly breaks the monotony of it all. (plus some unmentionables which I’ll not go into here…)

After working on a number of projects, I finally got to meet up with my business partner, PPC Super Affiliate Amit Mehta.

If you have caught Amit’s Affiliate Summit East presentation, then you know that Amit delivers 110% on his content.

His keynote speech and presentation at PPC Classroom Live were no exception…

One thing that newer internet marketers fail to grasp is the mindset element, and there’s an overemphasis on the tactical elements (eg. landing pages, keyword lists, quality score). If you take a step back, you’d realize that the business systems and mindset are what makes you the mega bucks…

Simon Leung’s changed his look from his avatar, so here’s how he looks now.

I was pretty jet lagged, so I had to crash during his talk.

Andrew Wee, Ros Gardner

It was my first time meeting Ros Gardner too. We had just missed each other at Affiliate Summit West earlier this year.

She did an interesting presentation, comparing her $1+ million earnings against Jeremy Palmer’s $1+ million earnings and doing an analysis on how their methods differ.

If anything, her disclosure that blogs are the main platform that she uses, ties in with what I’ve been hearing from other super affiliates recently.

Dave Bullock’s talk on Taguchi testing certainly raised my awareness on the specific details about Taguchi testing. It’s not something I’d do right now (split testing seems sufficient for now), but perhaps in the future.

On Sunday, Amit and I hosted an Insider’s Breakfast for our Super Affiliate Accelerator breakfast.

It was great meeting up with the Super Affiliate Accelerator members and share some techniques to bring their business and their campaigns to the next level.

I’d spoken to Affiliate Radar creator Mark Roth a number of times and was involved in the launch of Affiliate Radar, so it was great to meet up with Mark and Rakeesh.

I also met Jay Stockwell who developed SpeedPPC.

And if you need proof of the Affiliate Classroom team’s dedication…

Rachel Honoway, Andrew Wee

Affiliate Classroom VP of Marketing Rachel Honoway lost her voice during the event.

After some googling, I discovered that “Vegas Throat” is common, and is mainly due to the dry desert air.

I’ve made a mental note to bring some “Pi Pa Gao” a Chinese herbal throat/cough mixture, so I’ll be fully prepared to speak at Affiliate Summit West in February.

Did you know that some entertainers (specifically singers) will not perform in Vegas due to possible damage to their vocal chords due to Vegas Throat?

Interesting…

After the event, we headed to the Voodoo Lounge on the 51st floor of the Rio, and here’s a shot of the skyline:

las vegas

Yes it’s going to be a 24+ hour flight, and it’s during the peak season where it was absolute murder to get my ticket.

But well worth it…

PPC Classroom Live is the live workshop component to Anik and Jeremy’s PPC Classroom product.

Here’s a taste of the Super Affiliate lineup:

Certainly worth flying all the way there for a couple of days (the event is on December 1-2 in Vegas).

For some affiliates who’re new to the industry and trying their luck, affiliate marketing can be a gamble…vegas

Especially if you don’t have a system in place and aren’t proficient at tracking and optimizing your affiliate campaigns…

But not if you can learn firsthand from the veterans.

There’re a number of tickets left at the promotional price of $297, and if you’re headed over, do stop by and say hi!

Monday Question: Is Web Advertising The Easiest Path To Internet Income? http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/monday-question-is-web-advertising-the-easiest-path-to-internet-income/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/monday-question-is-web-advertising-the-easiest-path-to-internet-income/#comments Tue, 16 Oct 2007 08:16:40 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/monday-question-is-web-advertising-the-easiest-path-to-internet-income/ This week’s Monday Question comes from Simon:

I see several options to run web advertising on my websites, and it looks very easy compared to affiliate marketing. Wouldn’t it be easier to make money this way?

That’s a good question.

Your internet income is determined by your effort.

The level of engagement (the time and effort you put into your marketing efforts) generally determines the type of return you get.

Here’s a listing of different monetization techniques with payouts listed from lower returns to higher returns:

Web advertising -> CPA (cost per action) marketing -> pay per sale (or what’s traditionally known as affiliate marketing) -> product creation

Web advertising refers to programs like the Google AdSense publisher program, Yahoo Search Marketing ads, WidgetBucks or programs like Chitika and Kontera.

I’ve found that web advertising generally provides a low rate of return UNLESS you pick a very hot niche, for example Transformers (during the launch of the movie), or perhaps a Batman-themed site in conjunction with the next movie. A “Gears of Wars” niche site for the XBox360 game wouldn’t do too shabbily either.

You’d probably know that all it takes to get paid is to have your visitors click on the ads.

Your payouts generally range from $0.05 per click and can go up to about $10 per click.

CPA Marketing provides a higher payout, however, the level of engagement is higher too.

In many cases the “Action” element in “Cost Per Action” involves submitting their name and email address, or requesting for information, or paying a nominal fee for a product.

Beyond just being a publisher, you need to have some marketing knowledge to create an incentive for visitors to complete the offer. More importantly, you need to know how to select offers that will convert.

Payouts generally range from $0.50 per action and can go up to $100 per lead.

There’s several affiliate networks you can join to check out CPA offers. I’ll update my resources page with a number of them.

Affiliate marketing requires active marketing on your part because you’re paid a commission only when the prospect buys the product or service. It’s also known as performance-based marketing.

With physical products (like a TV or computer or furniture), the commission generally ranges between 2% and 15% of the product price.

With digital products (eg. ebooks, podcasts, certain types of DVDs, home study courses), it can range between 50% to 75%. In some cases, the payout can hit 100%.

With product creation, you’d invest a one-time effort to develop the product, then decide how you want to market it. You could either market it yourself and keep all the profits, or recruit affiliate marketers to promote it, or run a PPC campaign and recruit publishers to run your advertising.

Beyond just “creating a product”, the key skills needed include being able to conduct market research, assessing product demand, managing product development, planning your marketing strategy, setting up your order fulfilment infrastructure, executing the campaign and customer service. If you’re a newer marketer, you might want to gain experience as an affiliate before trying this.

Your first assumption might be that everyone should be an affiliate marketer for digital products.

It can be immensely successful provided you’re willing to invest time to understand your market and create the appropriate marketing campaign.

Most newbies will create a blog or website, do a product review along the lines of “Is Product XYZ a scam? Read this review to find out” then drop their affiliate link in there.

There’s many problems with this approach [which I might go into in a later post] that it will not work for many newbies.

The bottomline is that if you’re totally green to Internet Marketing, you might want to start off with web advertising, and gradually move up to CPA marketing and affiliate marketing.

If you’ve already had some experience under your belt, you might like to check out my Wealth Ninja affiliate marketing product, or Anik Singal and Jeremy Palmer’s PPC Classroom.

Monday Question: Pay-Per-Click vs Blogging vs Free Traffic face-off http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/monday-question-pay-per-click-vs-blogging-vs-free-traffic-face-off/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/monday-question-pay-per-click-vs-blogging-vs-free-traffic-face-off/#comments Mon, 01 Oct 2007 16:14:34 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/monday-question-pay-per-click-vs-blogging-vs-free-traffic-face-off/ Mark asked “I have been reading your blog for awhile, and everything I have seen you do has revolved around blogging and free traffic. Have you had success with this program, and/or with PPC in general recently? I am just a bit surprised to see you promoting this offer since I haven’t read about you doing things with PPC before.”

Here’s my response to this Monday Question:

Monday Question - PPC Vs Blogging And Free Traffic - The best bloopers are a click away

While blogging and free traffic continue to generate 90-95% of the traffic (with SEO traffic making up the balance), like any business owner, I’m looking at ways to grow my business and increase sales and profits.

PPC is certainly a good prospect, which is why I’m promoting PPC Classroom. It comes from 2 credible Internet marketers, Jeremy Palmer and Anik Singal, and I’ve had a chance to take a look at the product. The next phase is putting it into action.

That’s one of the reasons I’m joining together with PPC Super Affiliate Amit Mehta to work on a number of PPC projects.

Besides PPC, I’ve been exploring eBay as a source of traffic and monetization, as well as a SEO project with former blackhat SEO-turned-Web2.0 specialist Howie Schwartz. More on that later this week.

Friday Podcast Episode 23: The Bootstrap Mentality Will Cripple Your Business… http://whoisandrewwee.com/podcasts/friday-podcast-episode-23-the-bootstrap-mentality-will-cripple-your-business/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/podcasts/friday-podcast-episode-23-the-bootstrap-mentality-will-cripple-your-business/#respond Fri, 28 Sep 2007 13:59:08 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/podcasts/friday-podcast-episode-23-the-bootstrap-mentality-will-cripple-your-business/ …And a possible cure.

bootstrap mentality

This edition of the Friday Podcast focuses on possibly pitfalls for the budding Internet Marketer.

Jump across this chasm that faces almost every business owner and you’ll be shooting for the stars.

Detailed notes follow, click on the “more” tab:

As a business owner involved in the process of building your internet marketing business, you will inevitably face the “time and money” dilemma.

The fact is that both time and money are limited resources.

Although money seems like the bigger limiting factor when you start out, you can work around it by using your own time, which seems free. Instead of DIY, do it yourself, you’d probably end up with DEY, do EVERYTHING yourself.

Here’s a problem…

Getting Paralyzed by the “Bootstrap Mentality”

Business develops, you’ll find that time is your limiting factor.
After all, there are ONLY 24 hours in a day.
As you still going to DEY?

Know of a number of experienced Internet Marketers who choose to work by themselves.

They:

  • Synchronize their web content by FTPing up and down hundreds of files
  • Answer email
  • Maintain, clean up, update, archive their mailing list
  • Develop their website
  • Design logos and graphics
  • Coordinate their joint ventures
  • Manage affiliates.

They eat their lunch in front of the computer.

During a break, they pop a DVD into their computer and watch a movie.
They spend more than 12 hours in front of the computer each day

Pretty soon their IM business takes over their life.
They may be making a five figure, or even six figure a month income, but it’s as good as being chained to their computer.
Having to check email every couple of hours, answering emails, talking to partners, writing and creating next product.

Income is also capped, reaches a ceiling.
There’s only so much you can do even with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Contrast: Super Affiliate Lifestyle

  • Go on 2 week holiday.
  • Travel halfway round the world to attend an event or perhaps to speak at a workshop,

This means you HAVE to automate your business.
Income comes in, even when you’re out on a night on the town, or at your kid’s birthday party.
But that’s the exception.

The rule or business as usual seems to revolve around Internet Marketers who haven’t gone on vacation for a couple of YEARS.
How’s that better than working in a regular job?
At least with a day job, you don’t have to check email on Saturday and Sunday and on Christmas Day and New Year’s.

If you can’t enjoy the benefits of your success, then what’s the point in doing all of this?

A Solution?: From StartUp to SetUp

One key component to overcoming the bootstrap mentality is to move from the StartUp mentality up to the SetUp mentality.

With the SetUp mentality, you GAIN CONTROL of your time.

SetUp Mentality: 3 Principles:

  • System:

Process is clear, easy to follow, organized.
System follows rules, principles.
Also allows you to outsource efforts.
Outsourcing is nothing short of a minor miracle.
Pay someone to buy their time to do your stuff.
Pay someone to check your email, do your webpage, even clean the house, so you don’t have to.
You’re converting your cash into time.
You’re buying time.

You can use that time to enjoy yourself.

  • Mentor/Role model

Find someone very skilled in their specialized field.
I’ve advanced very quickly as a journalist, to managing people’s businesses, to doing training and consulting, and now Internet Marketing because I’ve had the opportunity to work with the best in whatever field I’ve entered.

Success creates success.
If you learn your stuff from a Top Gun, you’ll BECOME a Top Gun.

Why’s it great? Because there’s a time issue involved.
You can slash the time required to learn a new skill by learning from someone who’s invested the time to go through the process.

Note: you have to be realistic too. If someone’s spent a long time learning something, you can’t expect to master it in an hour or in a day.
That’s just NOT possible.

If someone’s spent 5 years learning and more importantly, mastering a skill and he can teach it to you in a couple of months, or perhaps weeks, you’ve shaved off YEARS from your learning cycle.

If you have realistic expectations and are motivated to succeed, a mentor can bring you far.

I’ve been working with PPC Super Affiliate Amit Mehta to master pay-per-click based affiliate marketing, and based on the initial results, they’ve been nothing short of spectacular.

When you look at two of the three pillars of the SetUp mentality, you’d realize that the solid business system, and a strong role model give you an almost unethical advantage…

What if you added the third component?

  • Mastermind/ focus group

Another way to multiply your progress is to work together with others who are also reaching for the same goals.
Key to a mastermind is keeping in constant communication and learning from each other’s successes, and more importantly, failures.

If you create an atmosphere where success and failures are openly shared, you are tapping on experience gained on someone else’s time to speed yourself along the learning curve.

Although there’s a fair amount of cross-learning when you visit a blog or a forum, nothing comes close to forming your own mastermind group.

I’ve experienced this, and I’ve seen this, that having all 3 components – the proven business system, a strong mentor and a mastermind gives you tremendous progress.

If you’re missing one of these components now, work on that aspect and you’ll see your business fly.

PS: I’m working on something with Amit that will top our bonus for Anik Singal and Jeremy Palmer’s PPC Classroom: Super Affiliate Accelerator, it’ll be announced about Friday noon, EST.

Stay tuned.

PPC Classroom Product Review – A No-BS Review http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/a-no-bullshit-review-of-anik-singal-and-jeremy-palmers-ppc-classroom/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/a-no-bullshit-review-of-anik-singal-and-jeremy-palmers-ppc-classroom/#comments Wed, 26 Sep 2007 08:42:58 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/a-no-bullshit-review-of-anik-singal-and-jeremy-palmers-ppc-classroom/ Note: Click here for the latest PPC Classroom 2.0 (by Amit Mehta and Anik Singal – Feb 2009)  product review

A major grouse I have with “shopping comparison sites” is that there’s often no “comparison” involved. They’re usually just a bunch of scraped data from affiliate datafeeds. There’s no “opinion” or comparison of the pros and cons of the product. Just a pile of digital trash on the information highway in my opinion.

It’s frequently the same case with Internet Marketing product “reviews” too…You know those ads that go:

Is Product XYZ A Scam? Check here to find the facts!
OR
Don’t Buy Product XYZ Till You Read This Review
OR my favorite
An Honest Review of Product XYZ” (yeah right…)

If you head over to the page, you usually see a regurgitation of the marketing material, or just a listing of the product’s specifications, the price and maybe some bogus “bonus”…whoopee…

In my past vocation as a tech journalist, I used to evaluate product and service offerings from the likes of Microsoft, Iomega, Diamond Multimedia, Creative Technology among others. The product reviews were subsequently syndicated on the newswires and online tech portals, so I’ll use the same methodology here as well.

What’s good and bad about PPC Classroom?

First off, the product is pretty comprehensive.
From the product graphic, it looks like:

  • 4 manuals
  • 7 discs (probably a combination of CDs or DVDs)
  • At least 8 handouts
  • Super Affiliate Jeremy Palmer’s “top secret” software tool for tracking ad campaigns across various pay-per-click search engines (a necessity once you are spending large amounts on PPC on a daily basis).

Regarding the course structure, it’s geared towards newer affiliate marketers with topics on:

  • An introduction to PPC and affiliate marketing
  • Keyword matching
  • Understanding PPC stats
  • Finding niches and identifying hot demand
  • Evaluating your competition and building your USP (unique selling proposition)

And the bread and butter of the PPC-affiliate marketing trade, affiliate marketing monetization strategies including:

  • Direct linking
  • Arbitrage/direct merchange linking
  • Landing pages
  • Opt-in (a hybrid PPC->email marketing approach)
  • and evaluating the different categories of offers.

Intermediate level affiliate marketers will likely benefit from more advanced topics like:

  • Complementary keyword strategies
  • The keyword buying cycle
  • Long end of the tail
  • How to find emerging/undiscovered products
  • Geo-targeting/time-based campaigning/day parting
  • Keyword trigger/content trigger/hybrid strategies
  • And a dissection of landing pages

Jeremy also chips in with his advanced tips and techniques, and emphasizes topics like ROI and bidding and positioning strategies.

Although there’s lots of material to go through, it’s laid out in an easy-to-understand manner.

Is PPC Classroom a complete product?

Not likely. If anything, things change so quickly in the Internet Marketing arena that no single product will be able to contain “everything”.

Which is why Anik and Jeremy have set up a series of webinars and have a forum in the works.

If it’s anything like Anik’s previous Affiliate Classroom program, you can expect to have a flood of content and continuing updates.

What I liked about the course content is that they’ve got a crack technical writing team to put the written materials together.

The concepts are explained in an easy-to-understand and sequential manner and are a stark contrast to the barely comprehensible manner in which most “make money online” books are written.

If you’re looking for a few quick and dirty tips to make a few quick bucks from your typical $47 or $97 ebook, PPC Classroom will not be your cup of tea. In fact, you’d probably find that there’s way too much reading involved…

If instead, you’re looking for a great resource to start building an online business, PPC Classroom is certainly worth a second look.

I’m not directly promoting PPC Classroom.
If you’re interested, you might like to check out this bonus package that my buddy, Super Affiliate Amit Mehta has put together.

Note: The “bonus package” promo was for the last PPC Classroom promo. You can visit the newest review.

Video Clips Dominating Google Search Results? And It’s Traffic Generation Implications http://whoisandrewwee.com/google/video-clips-dominating-google-search-results-and-its-traffic-generation-implications/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/google/video-clips-dominating-google-search-results-and-its-traffic-generation-implications/#comments Thu, 05 Jul 2007 18:11:44 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/google/video-clips-dominating-google-search-results-and-its-traffic-generation-implications/ Since the official announcement on the Google blog in January, there’s been widespread expectation that video clips would make their way into Google’s SERPs (search engine results pages). But did anyone expect that video clips would rank so highly?

Take the SERPs for Internet Marketer Rachel Rofe:

rachel rofe

Her video clip shot during the recent JV Alert seminar is a blurb for The Next Internet Milionaire. Yet it comes in as result 4, a little below her MySpace profile, personal blog and LinkedIn profile.

It certainly looks impressive.

Another search for Internet Marketer Anik Singal, shows a clip from Affiliate Summit 2006 East coming in as result 8 out of 69,300.

anik singal

This result ranks above his ezinearticles profile page. Pretty amazing.

And expanding the “+ Watch video” tab, opens an embedded player:

anik singal

So you need not even leave the SERPs to view the video.

Pretty impressive.

Search Engine Land’s Barry Schwartz also notes that revshare video site MetaCafe’s clips are appearing in Google Video’s results.

If traffic is going to be consolidated at Google’s web properties, would traffic be involuntarily “stuck” at Google or one of its subsites?

More importantly, is this going to be a “good” thing?

Another interesting development has been my discovery of an additional search tab:

google search options

For a brief moment, I was able to pull up an additional table with additional options.

I wasn’t able to replicate this result, but it certainly shows that there are more comprehensive search options in store.

Will video be the next step in Google’s content indexing strategy after text-based information?

All the signs seem to indicate so.
