He said, you are mad no one wants to read such a post.

Why should anyone care about blog comments? They are just 1-2 sentences of nonsense.

Really, I asked? What if blog comments could bring you 300% more traffic? Would that be interesting?
Unlikely! I delete away all the blog comments I get. Those guys are just fishing for a link back to their blog. I’ve already built up my Google rankings. No sense to have outgoing links.

Ah, but what if the comment was useful?

Useful?

Yes, if the person reading your post were to read the comment and get a lot of value from it. Would you leave it on?

What do you mean?

I showed him a couple.

Hmm, interesting. I guess I’d leave it on.

BUT what if I included my blog address in it. Would you still leave it on.

Why not?

What’re the benefits of blog comments:

  • Enhanced credibility: If you come across as knowledgeable about the blogger’s topic, you’ll enhance your standing in the community. If you ask intelligent questions, you will also enhance your standing. If you are sharp, you will be able to differentiate between value-adding and value-destroying comments.
  • Reciprocal traffic: If you sound like an interesting person and come across as an authority in your subject area, expect the visitor to hop onto your site for a quick look. Be aware that having consistently good content is important as you never know when guests will come a-knocking. Updating regularly (at least once a week, more if you can) is important too.
  • Bookmarking/Backlinking/Traffic referral: If your blog is a good resource, expect others to bookmark your site, subscribe to your RSS feed, include you in their blogroll, tell their friends about you, do trackbacks. This is all good quality ‘sticky’ (loyal) traffic. I would rather have 300 loyal readers every day, rather than 1,000 who just happened to surf by,

So there you have it, to have a meaningful comment, just leave quality comments.

Simple, right?

For those of you who might like a little more, I’ll be leaving comments to this post to illustrate what I mean.
