Jon got the attention of the community when he posted $80k+ screenshots of his earnings at the SitePoint forums.

So it was a little of a shock to see him announce: The End Of An Era – Jon Resigns From Affiliate Marketing As An Affiliate.

But then again, it wasn’t all that surprising, considering most Super Affiliates like Ewen Chia, Ros Gardner and co. eventually shift to creating their own products or launching a new business.

The leverage of having planned and operating an affiliate campaign for another product creator, giving them invaluable insight in managing their own army of affiliates.

For someone in his “mid-20s” and racking up 12 years of affiliate marketing experience, I can see where he’d move in the direction of his own venture. As he mentions:

As some of you have heard, we are making our own sites, with our own merchant accounts, our own content, and our own private (beta until July) affiliate program.

The details of the new venture aren’t out yet, though I’m sure known Jon and the WF team, it’ll be something off the beaten track and will send more than a few ripples through the industry.

Will there be some interesting questions coming up during Jon and Shoemoney’s session at Affiliate Summit West?

You bet.

Anatomy of A Successful Affiliate Marketing Campaign http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/affiliate-marketing-campaign-strategies-tips/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/affiliate-marketing-campaign-strategies-tips/#comments Thu, 04 Jan 2007 15:47:44 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/247/affiliate-marketing-campaign-strategies-tips/ Whether you’re focus on a pay per sale (like Clickbank) or pay per lead affiliate campaign (like Azoogle), the system is pretty much the same.

And if you’re using a system (with formalized processes), you’re much more likely to succeed.

Every campaign will be different and things may not go the way you’ve planned, even if you’ve adopted the best practises from an affiliate marketing system, whether it’s from a super affiliate like Ewen Chia or Ros Gardner or a system like Affiliate Project X.

Nothing quite beats having hands-on experience though because real world experience is the ‘bridge’ between what you read about, and the actual affiliate commissions you will earn.

There are a number of factors to a successful campaign.

  • Product

Without a product, there’s no transaction. You may hear advice about checking for a good payout and a high conversion ratio (ie a high percentage of leads being converted to transactions).

It’s a good idea to invest or subscribe to the product too, so you’ll have firsthand experience of it’s features and benefits.

Some affiliate marketers stop at this stage, shortlisting products and start promoting them. I feel you could get better results if you consider the other factors too.

  • Prospects

What’s the profile of the traffic you’re sending to the page?

You might want to direct your prospects to an intermediate landing page before sending them to a landing page.

If you’ve a package like awstats (which comes with my webhosting service), you’ll have a breakdown by country, browser type, operating system, origination of traffic.

These analytics will give you a holistic picture of your traffic profile and help you measure your traffic generation strategies, so you can focus on more effective ones and drop those that fail to produce results.

It’s worth collecting prospect data via an autoresponder like Aweber or GetResponse as it may take up to 7 exposures before the prospect takes an action.

  • Promotion Channel Strategy

You will likely have a dominant channel strategy such as PayPerClick traffic, blogging, forum marketing, email marketing or social networking to reach your prospects.

Match the affiliate products characteristics to your channel.

You will get better results if you shift your promotion strategy to match the product and prospects.

If necessary, use an offline direct marketing strategy to promote your products to get an edge over ‘online-only’ marketers.

For beginner type products like introductory Internet Marketing products, offline methods such as giving talks and interviews, distributing flyers and relationship marketing can be especially effective.

  • Persistance and Innovation

Affiliate marketing is a constantly evolving game. A technique that worked a month ago, may be less effective now. The mantra “test, test and test” is a truism, especially if you’re shooting for, or aiming to maintain your super affiliate status.

Innovation is a process of adapting a technique from one medium to another (email marketing is seen as an extension to direct mailing). Observe a successful offline marketing technique, adapt it to the online context and test.

  • The Affiliate Marketing Reality

Although newer affiliate marketers seem to complain that they have few sales because ‘people aren’t buying’, this will result in a long spiral downwards because ‘people’ are not within our direct control.

Instead, it’d be more useful to focus on making changes to the affiliate marketing process (which we can influence/control) to yield the outcomes we’re aiming at.

List Yourself on the Affiliate Blog Directory http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/scott-jangro-affiliate-blog-directory/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/affiliate-marketing/scott-jangro-affiliate-blog-directory/#comments Sat, 30 Dec 2006 21:12:29 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/243/scott-jangro-affiliate-blog-directory/ I was checking out community members who’d visited my blog over at MyBlogLog and checked out fellow Singapore Leonard Chen’s blog, especially his entry: Here comes the Affiliate Blog list.

It looks like Scott Jango might be on to starting something viral with his post: Have You Got An Affiliate Marketing Blog?

As you’re expect, the big guns of Affiliate Marketing: Ros Gardner, Shoemoney, Linda Buquet, Shawn Collins, Kris Jones, are already on the list, though I’d expect it’s just a matter of time before the likes of Ewen Chia, PlanetAndrea and Jon F appear too.

I’m lucky I didn’t do a trackback to these guys. It would’ve been pretty cheap…
Who knows, I might’ve fired a backlink at Chris Hooley, GrayWolf, Neil Patel, or even one of those crazy guys like TofuMonkey.

Who knows what might’ve happened next?

Oops.

Oh gosh.

Oh well.

I’d have shot the link into the Affiliate Marketing TickMe group (with 67 members. Yes, you need to be a member to see the group. And yes, I spawned the group). But Dave Naylor hasn’t implemented a forum/bulletin board function yet, so I can’t easily announce it to the group members.

Yes, go ahead and petition give feedback to DaveN in the comments area at: TickMe – New Social Networking Site

PS: If you feel that I’ve succeeded in creating the LinkBait Post of the Year, please let me know in the comments below.

If you don’t feel so, it only means I’ve failed.

Kickstart Your Blogging Business and Make Big Money: 7 Reality Checks http://whoisandrewwee.com/blogging/problogger-7-reality-checks/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/blogging/problogger-7-reality-checks/#comments Thu, 21 Dec 2006 18:03:07 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/232/problogger-7-reality-checks/ [This post is my entry for Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger Group Writing Project – Reviews and Predictions]

2006 was an interesting time for me as I plunged into Internet Marketing.

Although I didn’t have a clear idea in the beginning, it was very clear that the path of least resistance would be to go with blogging.

In the course of the last 5 months, I’ve had a series of interesting experiences and the questions I’ve dealt with appear to be common with all new bloggers, whether the questions originate from a blog, a forum, a blog network or a social networking site.

Here’s 2006 in retrospective in a FAQ format with money making tips and 7 Reality Checks for bloggers and internet marketers.
Blogging is Evil

  • Blogging Reality Check 1: Making Money from Blogging is Evil

I’m not sure of the intent of this often heard objection.

I guess some might have ‘pure/purist intentions’ and expect that blogging is some form of ‘cathartic release’ for heavy/philosophical/ponderous thinking.

I see blogging as a form of personal journalism. And journalists have to eat.

Like it or not, the reason why your newspaper or magazine doesn’t cost $100 a copy is because it’s sponsored by advertisements and the classifieds. Likewise, blogs can be financially self-sustaining through adsense, affiliate marketing and other monetization strategies.

Expecting bloggers to provide free content is akin to expecting musicians to provide music free of charge.

It takes time and resources to produce blog content and there is a measurable value to it.

In a utopian society, writers, artists, musicians would be able to freely practise their craft without fear of finding their next meal. We don’t live in that world yet.
Making Millions

  • Blogging Reality Check 2: I Will Make Millions Overnight

On the other extreme, I have spoken to bloggers who expect to make huge sums of money overnight.

It’s unlikely to happen unless you are some sort of celebrity, likely a mega celebrity if you’re planning to bring in the megabucks.

If you are not however, it’s time to face a reality check.

We’ve also heard about products or software that can automatically build blogs by the hundreds every hour, and we’ve also heard about how if each blog earns a dollar each day, you’d be earning thousands of dollars in your sleep.

While you might have some degree of success using these blogging-related “quick buck” schemes, it might not necessarily be sustainable (ie you are ‘de-indexed’ and disappear from the search engine results, or your ‘innovative’ monetization exploit is soon negated.) It then becomes a mad rush for the next “black hat template” or the next automated, broadband-enabled, stealth, power-enhanced, web2.0-enabled, ajax-enhanced, php-powered widget.

Rinse and repeat until it gets disabled by one of the higher power. (see above paragraph)
If you are a serious blogger for which blogging is a long term strategy to help you achieve your goals, here’s what I would advise you to do.

Think of your blog as a business tool. Consider:

  • How does it fit in with your adsense or affiliate marketing plan?
  • How would you go about establish trust and credibility for your business.
  • Who would your strategic partners be.
  • How are you building your “me” brand?

Free tools

  • Blogging Reality Check 3: Free Tools and Services

New Internet Marketers ask me this all the time: “What are the free tools we can use besides blogger/blogspot to growing our blogging efforts.”

I’d add to the list of useful tools such as GIMP, PingOat, Squidoo.

What troubles me however, is that some who aspire to earn online income aim to do it only using free tools.

I think you could probably earn $50-$100 per month using free tools, and if you’re good earn maybe $500.

Beyond that could be highly challenging. I guess if you put your mind to it, you could come up with very interesting business models.

For the vast majority of us however, I’d advise counting the value of your time.

Sure you could surf 1,000 websites and gather the same information, or as one participant at the World Internet Summit said to me, I can just google for everything, I don’t need to buy anything (which was weird because he invested in a World Internet Summit ticket…)

To build a sustainable business, you need to value your time.

Is your time worth $5 an hour? $10? $50? $500? $5,000?

If your time is worth more than the cost of the product or service, you’d be foolish not to subscribe or invest in the product.

Even if your time was worth $1 per hour, I couldn’t see how it’d make sense to manually maintain a mailing list of 1,000 and send them emails on a bi-weekly basis.

I use a combination of free and paid tools and you’d generally be able to tell the difference between the two.

If you have the mindset of starting and operating a business, your tools will generate many times their investment for you.

Some of the useful tools which outweigh their investment include:

Once you have these fundamentals in place, you’d find that building your business is much easier.

WhoIsAndrewWee

  • Blogging Reality Check 4: It Takes Tough Times

It’s taken 4 months to get to the stage I’m currently at.

Although I’d have preferred to get here within a week of starting up, building a business, blogging-based or otherwise is as much about the process of getting to your goal, as much as merely achieving it.

As you’re building your blogging business you will encounter setbacks, perhaps days in which your visitor numbers or income drop drastically.

Here’s something that people don’t often talk about.

The measure of a mature blogger is not what happens when good times are rolling, but what you do when things go south.

Do you merely throw in the towel? Do you kick your efforts up a notch?

Often the most spectacular successes are built on the backs of the most dismal circumstances.

Look at the rise of Japan after the Second World War, or Apple after an ousted Steve Jobs rejoined and the company’s fortunes turned not once, but numerous times with the launch of the MacIntosh, the iMac and the iPod.

If you’ve watched real life events unfold during 9-11, you’d know that true heroes are forged in the moments of greatest adversity.

A couple of months ago, I blogged about: Are you ready to give up on Internet Marketing?

It’s still relevant now. Perhaps more so.

Some people seek to avoid difficulty and challenges, others actively seek it.

Which are you?

Focus

  • Blogging Reality Check 5: I Will Make Millions Overnight

Are you an ‘everything under the sun’ blogger?

If you are one of the myriad of blogger who blogs about “internet marketing”, “health and fitness” or “women’s issues”, you could be biting off more than you can chew.

Catchall blogs work best if they’re run by a panel of bloggers (sometimes as many as 10), or by especially prolific bloggers.

If you’re specializing in everything, you’re specializing in nothing.

Finding your niche and entrenching yourself deeply in it means that your position is virtually unassailable.

If you do choose to tackle “internet marketing”, maybe you want to niche it by focusing on “internet marketing for high school students”, “internet marketing for midcareer professionals” or “internet marketing for single mothers”.

The brick and mortar businesses have moved towards speciality stores, rather than general concept stores (with Wal Mart being one of the few exceptions). Likewise, becoming a niche specialist helps you expand from a position of power.

Build A Community
Blogging Reality Check 6: Build A Community

When you’re starting out, you might be working in isolation.

If you’re fortunate, you might be able to tap into a community. By tapping into these resources, you gain significant leverage as you’re expanding your efforts.

“Leverage”, comes in a few flavors. There’s technological leverage that a software or tool can help by automating your efforts. But far more powerful is social leverage or people-oriented leverage.

And social leverage can easily move mountains.

During the launch of Russell Brunson’s Conquer Your Niche Internet Marketing forum, the site’s traffic went off the charts.

Other sites I frequently visit include:

Forums such as:

Blogs such as:

At it’s simplest, I believe build a community is nothing more than making friends, and I appreciate the opportunities to interact with the likes of Ewen Chia, Jo Han Mok, Social Media specialist Michelle MacPhearson, and my buddies Ryan Chua and Rachit Dayal.

Change the World
Blogging Reality Check 7: Change the World

This is probably the most important step.

Have a focus bigger than yourself.

You don’t necessarily need to choose ‘world peace’, but you want your blogging efforts to mean more than pounding out 300-700 words every 24 hours, inserting a few photos and hitting the publish button.

We need meaning to keep going.

Meaning is the glue that creates our motivation.

We all have 24 hours a day, and we can choose to spend that time focusing on big project, or on small projects.

When you embrace something huge, something weird happens to your thinking too, it expands.

Your world view blows up and suddenly your universe is not just your neighbourhood, or the people in your village, city, state or country.

If you’re seeing and blogging through the eyes of a world citizen, life (business or personal) can only continue to be a rich canvas to blog about.

10 Ways to a Killer Blog Part 3 http://whoisandrewwee.com/blogging/10-ways-to-a-killer-blog-part-3/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/blogging/10-ways-to-a-killer-blog-part-3/#comments Thu, 14 Dec 2006 19:09:06 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/225/10-ways-to-a-killer-blog-part-3/ If you missed the earlier parts, check out:

This series is based on Robert Scoble’s presentation at the Blog Business Summit.

On with the show:

10 Ways Killer Blog

Have a Voice

Having a voice personalizes your blog. The top blogs are read not so much for their factual content, but often the ‘spin’, interpretation or analysis of the facts.

You can choose to be informative, instructional, funny, maybe even a combination of all the voices you choose to project.

Writing, and increasing podcasts and vodcasts give a deeper look to the blogger’s mind, emotions and personality.

We’re all voyeuristic to some extent and that’s what makes it engaging.

10 Ways Killer Blog

Get Outside the blogosphere

It’s easy to be insular and talk about stuff in the ‘blogging world’.

Though engaging readers on a number of fronts, especially engaging with the ‘real world’ and ‘real life’ makes a blog more relevant.

While I was active in the world of mudding (the text-based predecessor to MMPOGs), it was all too easy to get lost in the world of raids, gold accumilation and perfecting your avatar/cottage/castle/realm.

If your blog factors reality into the picture, it’d lend for a richer experience all around.

10 Ways Killer Blog

Market Yourself

Build up your ‘me’ brand is a theme which has been covered in previous postings.

If you’re not going to market yourself, who is?

For inspiration, check out:

10 Ways Killer Blog

What? There’s more? Paul Scoble has included a number of ‘bonuses’ and there’s actually more than “10 Ways” to a killer blog. Here we go.

Write Well

You don’t necessarily need perfect grammer to score well with readers.

On the other hand, you have to be able to get your point across.

Some rules that I’ve found useful for my blogging:

  • Write simply. If something seems more complicated than it should, rewrite.
  • Short sentences work better than long ones. Four word sentences, ok!
  • Get feedback: We’re not born with pens in our hands. As the 9rules state: Keep learning!

Are there other ‘ways’ you employ in creating your killer blog?

Need Traffic? Check out Traffic Masters 2007 http://whoisandrewwee.com/traffic-generation/traffic-masters-2007-launch/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/traffic-generation/traffic-masters-2007-launch/#respond Tue, 05 Dec 2006 19:23:55 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/216/traffic-masters-2007-launch/ Traffic Masters 2007Traffic is the lifeblood of every website.

You can have the nicest looking website, with original content and the perfect opt-in page.

But if you don’t have traffic, especially qualified traffic coming to your site, your online venture might come to a screeching halt, not to mention you might end up with a list of one (that’s yourself).

Which was why I found Ewen Chia’s Web Advertising Secrets an easy product to promote.

Containing more than 20 different traffic generation methods, at it’s $97 price, it’d generate it’s value in adsense or affiliate marketing income very quickly.

Fast forward a few months and Ewen’s taken Web Advertising Secrets off the market.

And I’d been left with a gap in the ‘traffic generation’ niche for the Internet Marketing suite I put together for my DigitalKeiretsu community.

It’s fortunate I met up with Ross Goldberg who specializes in SEO.

Ross GoldbergRoss who? you might ask.

You might’ve seen Ross’ articles under “Ross M. Goldberg”

What you may not know is that Wisconsin-based Ross is a partially paralyzed disabled veteran of the Iraqi war era.

He opened Memory Foam Furniture and was one of the largest bedding stores on eBay, clocking up $400,000 in sales and $100,000 in profit in its first year.

He soon set up his own website, spending hundreds of hours developing expertise in SEO to drive traffic to his site. The site currently has Google PR (pagerank) 5 at the time of this blog post.

Ross’ new product Traffic Masters 2007 focuses on traffic generation.

In this, he gives an insider’s perspective (having used the methods himself) on:

  • Classic Methods: such as Pay Per Click, Web Directories, SEO, Article Marketing
  • Web2.0 Methods: MySpace, YouTube, Social Bookmarking
  • Shopping Sites: Google-based/Froggle, Auctions, Coupon Sites
  • Offline Methods, Direct Marketing, “Off Beat” Methods, Traffic Tactics and more

Ross has done the grunt work for you and it’s readily apparent in the depths of information for each method.

He has also painstakingly listed the Pageranks for the various directories he uses.

What new Internet Marketers will appreciate about Traffic Masters is that Ross guides you in a step-by-step manner in using each method.

Granted, within an 86 page ebook, he wont be able to go through the “Run Your Browser, go to “Google.com”, enter “Article Submission”, micro level steps that a “Dummies” or “Idiots” computer book would go into, but I think it leaves the book addressing you in a more intelligent manner.

But what if you get stuck?

Ross has thoughfully included two support mechanisms:

  • Email course to guide you through the traffic generation process
  • Members-only forum where you can direct traffic generation questions directly to Ross

Included in the product pack are related tools and software which will help automate your traffic generation process and give you an edge up in lead generation. He’s also included a list of Private Label Rights bonuses which I haven’t had a chance to check out yet.

Bottomline:

Is Traffic Masters 2007 worth investing in at the launch price of $97?

While you could invest that amount in Pay Per Click traffic and generate one-off traffic for your website, my feeling is that investing in Traffic Masters will expand the range of traffic tools at your disposal.

Many of Traffic Masters’ strategies are low cost or free, so you can get massive leverage from using them.

My suggestion is that newer Internet Marketers will find this an instructional and practical read.

Experienced Internet Marketers will find that it fills in the gaps in their traffic generation strategies and is a good reference to have on hand.

Check out the product for yourself:

What’s the ‘Best Internet Marketing’ Business Model? http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/internet-marketing-business-model/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/internet-marketing-business-model/#comments Mon, 04 Dec 2006 14:29:34 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/215/internet-marketing-business-model/ I get this question all the time.

  • “What will pay the best?”
  • “What works the best in Internet Marketing?”
  • “Can you recommend something to me which will make me a lot of money?”
  • “How do I make $100,000 a month?”

Here’re my replies:

  • “What will pay the best?” / “What works the best in Internet Marketing?”

I think people who ask this question, expect a ‘silver bullet’ type answer.

Perhaps hearing “eBay Auctions” or “Adsense Publishing” will answer their money woes.

But the reality is that lots of people are making good money on the Internet.

And there’re at least ten basic ways to make online income, and probably 100 variations of that.

So the best way is the way that works best for you.

The “You” factor plays a big part in your success.

You determine your business model, you decide how you want to position your product or service. You determine the action plan and you take action on it.

I’ve heard that click arbitrage is dead.

I’ve also been to a number of online communities recently where they practise it on a daily basis, with some making upwards of $5,000 a day.

Is click arbitrage really dead?

Some would like to think so. I’m fairly sure that their detractors have their own business model (together with accompanying products and service) to promote.

I honestly believe that one business model is just as good as another, provided you put in the time and effort to make it work.

If you have a personal interest and stake in it, your chances of success are very much higher.

I personally don’t find creating 1,000 adsense income generating blogs that exciting, nor innovative (but that’s my personal preference), so I’ve decided to go ahead with this blog.

Most of my income has come from this blog, and people seem to be upset with me when I say that.

Perhaps they wanted to see my entire ‘network’. Or “all my websites” (I’m not sure what they want to see).
Sorry to let you down, folks.

Next question:

  • “Can you recommend something to me which will make me a lot of money?”

Sure. Pick something you’re interested in, then run with it.

Interested in Dogs?

  • Create a dog niche site, maybe dog care.
  • Sign up for dogfood affiliate programs.
  • Commission an ebook on a niche area.Create a dog community site, a forum
  • Create a viral dog campaign (hold back the rabies though).
  • Go on the road, give dog-related talks
  • Join an animal rights political party.

Have fun too! (actually that’s the most important element).

Unfortunately, most people don’t see the behind the scenes work behind every success story.

If you want good money fast! Expect to put in 8 hour days building up your business.

Except for lottery winners, I haven’t seen many make huge incomes overnight.

Even when watching Super Affiliate Ewen Chia and Copywriter Jo Han Mok, pull their $65,462 affiliate marketing campaign over 2.5 days during the recent World Internet Summit, it’s easy to overlook the fact that they’ve been at it for the past 3 years.

Can you pull the $435,000+ that Super Affiliate Ros Gardner did in her first year?

Possibly, but are you willing to put in the same effort?

I don’t know exactly how much time Ros put in that year, but I’m fairly sure it’s something substantial.

When you make the decision to go into Internet Marketing, it depends on what your goals are.

  • If you’re doing this as a hobby and putting in hobby type time, expect hobby type results.
  • If you’re planning to build a business, and an Internet Marketing business is as much a business as any, expect to put in time and effort in the beginning to master the basics and you can expect to see the returns coming in.

Final question:

  • “How do I make $100,000 a month?”

When you’re actually in the business, you can see how systematic everything actually is.

If you have a niche blog/site generating $1,000 per month, 10 of those amounts to $10,000 per month. And 100 of those gets you $100,000 per month.

If you have an info product generating $500 per month, 20 of those will generate $10,000 per month. Rinse and repeat.

The key though is refining the system which will bring you the results you are aiming for.

Once it works for one niche, you move on to the next and repeat the process.

Seen in that manner, isn’t Internet Marketing full of possibilities?

Are You Cheating Yourself of Massive Internet Marketing Income? http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/cheating-yourself-of-internet-marketing-income/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing/cheating-yourself-of-internet-marketing-income/#comments Thu, 30 Nov 2006 23:00:07 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/211/cheating-yourself-of-internet-marketing-income/ Here’s a tip.

If you’re building an Internet Marketing branding site, and build the “Me” brand which I’ve mentioned a number of times:

Building the “Me” Internet Marketing Brand

The biggest thing you can do is very simple, and at the same time, the hardest for many to accept. (I’ve had a difficult one with this too).

Almost people will have stiff resistance to this idea. Some may eventually do it especially if they see the logic behind it (but still do it very unwillingly).

But if you want to build your “me” brand, you must do it.

On your personal branding blog, your “me” brand blog, disable all web advertising programs.

Remove every one of them.

This is what Jo Han told me: “If you’re working so hard to bring traffic to your site, are you serious about sending them away when they click on adsense? You want to send your traffic away for a few cents?”

I realized, that it’s seriously stupid to bring traffic to my blog and send them away after less than 30 seconds on-site (And my traffic logs show it too).

On my blog at least, you’ll experience “the Death of Adsense”.

But something more pressing to consider.

During my World Internet Summit Singapore session, the same question went through my mind as I watched Willie Crawford, Dave Cavanagh, Jo Han, Ewen, Andrew and Daryl Grant, Mike Cheney and company do their thing, “What is the
difference that makes the difference?”

Why were they standing on the stage, addressing a crowd of 1,000? While I was sitting in the crowd?

Well, the most obvious factor was the time factor.

The ‘newest’ Internet Marketers on stage were niche site specialists Andrew and Daryl Grant, having been ‘in the biz’ for 2 years.

I’ve worked out what’s the WIS Speakers “difference that makes a difference” too. Which I’ll go into shortly.

So I was thinking, about my big Internet Marketing goal.

My aim is to address an Internet Marketing audience of at least 100 by July 21st, 2007.

Why that date?

It’ll be before my first full year in Internet Marketing.

It’ll be an interesting experience.

I’ve been talking to several Internet Marketers at WIS and several had been ‘blocked’ in their efforts.

I realized that many were banging against the walls I’d mentioned in a previous post.

Too often and too many were facing the same issues and same challenges and getting held back.

It’s sad that the same patterns repeat themselves, and often the same simple solutions would unlock the answers for these poor hapless individuals.

What will ultimately kill a prospective Internet Marketers career is thinking about something too much.

As far as I’m aware, thinking about something hasn’t created any business empires (although if you’re a business consultant you might be able to think about something, but you’d still have to commit your thoughts to paper or translate it into a consultancy engagement to monetize it).

During Stuart’s Internet Money Secrets, I remember people coming up to me, after I related elements of my social proof.

I told them specifically which tools I’d been using and how I’d been using these tools.

I’d just checked up on their efforts.

Guess what?

Nothing.

Although I’ve lost my voice, my refrain will continue to be “If you do nothing, nothing will happen”.

“If you do something, something will happen”

Here’s a post which I posted some time ago and it’s still as relevant now, as it was then:

-> Why 90% of Internet Marketers fail

The question is: If you haven’t taken action yet, will you take action now?

Laying Your Million Dollar Seeds at World Internet Summit http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing-events/world-internet-summit-million-dollar/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing-events/world-internet-summit-million-dollar/#comments Fri, 24 Nov 2006 15:49:02 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/206/world-internet-summit-million-dollar/ Plunge
Are you hesistant about growing your business?

I’ve noticed that too many people waste the opportunities they’re given when they go to events.

Look at this logically: there’re tons of people at the event. A lot of them could be potential customers, some even loyal lifetime customers. And a select few could be invaluable joint venture partners.

Wouldn’t it be silly to squander these opportunities?

Have you met people who have gone to events and:

  • Neglected to bring their business cards (It’ll cost you a nice dinner to make a box, and bring you more value than a good steak)
  • Stand in the corner, looking at the ground (vinyl floor is so fascinating, isn’t it?)
  • Place an inordinate interest reading the event programme (which mainly consists of sponsored ads)

If you’re going to do that, I’d suggest you stay at home and place an order for Secret Blog Weapon instead. You’d have an income-generating blog up and running in a month.

But if you choose to go to events like World Internet Summit, or the Elite Retreat, why not make better use of it?

Here’s some tips to maximize your time at World Internet Summit, or any other Internet Marketing event for that matter.

Be Prepared:
Bring a survival kit consisting of the following:

  • Business Card for your onliness business. include your email address, cell phone, blog/website address, a brief description of what you go (“We create value for you” is vague and totally useless – ditch immediately. “Tomorrow is a better day” – immediate recycle bin). There’ll be 1,000 people at WIS. You will need more than 20 cards. Likely you can give out 300-400 cards if you work the crowd right.
  • Digital Camera:Snap a picture with the gurus. It’ll help immensely as you leverage off their credibility. It’s also a form of assurance if you’re marketing their products later. Send them a copy of the photo too, they’ll remember you better.
  • Pen and paper: Potentially the most useful. Use it to collect contacts for those who have no business card or ran out. Collect their name, email and contact number. If someone’s especially important as either a prospect or a partner, mark their entry with an asterisk. It’s useful for making notes during the presentations or in a pinch, for making impromptu namecards if you yourself run out.
  • A copy of your product: If you’re about to release a new ebook, print out a couple of hard copies. Give them to the presenters whom you feel might be a potential partner. Give a copy to any large list owners you meet. The biggest problem for newer Internet Marketers is not that you’re giving your product for free, but rather that no one knows who you are.

Be Personable:

Be friendly to everyone you meet. That guy with the bad acne and strong body odour might be the brains behind that $997 SEO software that sold 10,000 copies during it’s launch. You just might need him as an advisor when you’re doing your own product launch.
Meeting face-to-face means you can present yourself beyond what you type on your blog or website. You’re helping to put a face to your name.

Be Ethusiastic:

We generally judge people we meet within 10 seconds of meeting them. Our physiology (how we stand, how we present ourself) and how we sound when we speak are two of the biggest giveaways when you talk to others. Not surprisingly, people get a good vibe when we’re enthusiastic and are more towards finding out more.

I’ve helped unlock the hidden bonuses for a number of WIS Singapore participants.

If you’d like to see if you’re eligible, fill in the contact me form in the right sidebar including your contact number and email.

Else I’ll see some of you tomorrow.

World Internet Summit and WIS Hidden Bonuses http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing-events/world-internet-summit-and-wis-hidden-bonuses/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing-events/world-internet-summit-and-wis-hidden-bonuses/#comments Thu, 23 Nov 2006 06:15:57 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/205/world-internet-summit-and-wis-hidden-bonuses/ It’s 5:55am as I’m writing this.

I’m quite psyched about World Internet Summit Singapore, having secured my place for the event yesterday evening.

World Internet Summit

It’s quite a stellar lineup and I’m particularly looking forward to getting a chance to catch Willie Crawford, Rick Raddatz and Matt Bacak in action.

The one thing I’m looking forward to the most though is Jo Han and Ewen’s World Internet Summit challenge.

How long does product creation, sales copy generation and a product launch take?

A week? 2 weeks? A month?

Jo Han and Ewen will do all this in 2 hours.

I got some insider info… that said this alone is worth the event cost. (there’s a video on the WIS site)
You can be sure I’ll be taking copious notes (and perhaps blog about it next week).

By the way, my insider contact is giving some hidden bonuses to WIS Singapore attendees.

I believe they’re highly desirable items and easily worth a couple of hundred dollars. The potential income generation potential is easily in the thousands.
If you’re already registered to go, or you are planning to go, you may qualify. (though he has to stop giving the bonuses soon).
Drop me a note at my: contact form

I’ll make some calls to see if you’re eligible and do my best to get back to you within an hour.

Here’s: World Internet Summit information link for more info on the event.
Here’s: my contact form link (include your name, email, contact number, so I can check on the hidden bonuses and get back to you. We only have a 12 hour window so my apologies if you don’t get the bonuses).

See you on Saturday!

Building the “Me” Internet Marketing Brand http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing-branding/ewen-chia-building-me-brand/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/internet-marketing-branding/ewen-chia-building-me-brand/#comments Tue, 21 Nov 2006 13:35:20 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/202/ewen-chia-building-me-brand/ Something Super Affiliate Ewen Chia said to me about a month ago has stuck with me. (If you missed the post, it’s at Ewen Chia and building the ‘Me’ brand)

Ewen Chia and Andrew Wee

Super Affiliate Ewen Chia and Andrew Wee

This was during the Unstoppable Traffic workshop. In response to a fellow attendee, Gary Fu’s, question about running a PPC campaign for an affiliate marketing product, Ewen asked, “Why are you advertising for the product? You should be building up the “me” brand”.

All aspiring affiliate marketers should take heed from the Super Affiliate himself.

For your longterm success, you’d want to brand yourself.

Do whatever it takes to build your personal credibility and reputation.

Stamp your name on everything you produce.

End your forum posts with your name, and a tag you’re associated with.

I use “Blogger and affiliate marketer”.

Pick one niche, or maybe two if you are very motivated.

Become an expert in it:

  • Read every report, every course
  • Go for seminars
  • Tune in to podcasts over at Webmasterradio.fm related to your chosen areas.
  • Get to know the major players in your niche.
  • Build rapport, build a community.
  • Serve that community.

Remember the concept of the goodwill bank?

Start investing in it now, and it’ll pay you handsomely.

Cy PriceI know some readers read my blog for entertainment. Maybe they enjoy my sense of humor Affiliate Chick Cy Price laughed at one of my posts related to pole dancing. (I’d like to believe she was laughing with me, rather than AT me).

Do whatever it takes to move one step closer to your goals.

Social Marketer Michelle MacPhearson is a great online and offline networker and social traffic specialist too. She sent me this testimonial which appears on MyWarriorNetwork profile.

Michelle

And the vicious cycle of kindness begins.

In some affiliate marketing products they stress the importance of latching on to product names, or keywords related to the products in your marketing campaigns.

Here’s my take on it.

That hot product you’re promoting today, or even if you’re the product creator maybe have a product lifespan of a year, or maybe two, or if you’re lucky even longer than that.

But it will be superceded by something else at some point in time.

I’m sure you’re planning to be here for the long haul though, outlasting any product du jour.

Whatever you do, focus on building the “Me” brand.

Killer WordPress Plugins Part 1 http://whoisandrewwee.com/wordpress-plug-ins/killer-wordpress-plugins-part-1/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/wordpress-plug-ins/killer-wordpress-plugins-part-1/#comments Thu, 16 Nov 2006 18:25:38 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/193/killer-wordpress-plugins-part-1/ Here’s an extension of my earlier traffic generation post and I’ll go through some of the plugins I use on this blog.

Used correctly, you will rank highly on the blog directories and aggregators like Technorati and bloglines, and the results pages on the trinity of search engines (Google, Yahoo! and MSN Search or Live.com).

Here’re five of my favourite WordPress plugins:

blog comments and related posts

Ready? Here goes:

  • Subscribe to Comments: One of the easiest plugins to set up and configure, this plugin sends an email notification to a blog reader when there’s a response to their comment. Good for encouraging return traffic and promoting discussions. You might expect 1 or 2 additional visits, and perhaps more if there’s a healthy discussion.
  • Related Posts: I had been looking for this plugin for some time before I located it. It does a search of your blog content and appends a list of posts which might have related content. Again a blog visitor would likely be interested in the related posts and read them. There’s another plugin Terong related which gives you manual control over selecting the related posts, but with 300+ posts, it’s quite a bugbear and I can live with the small margin of error Related Post comes up with sometimes.

Download audio file (audio-player-intro.mp3)

  • Audio Player: One of the best plugins available. It allows you to play MP3 tracks. Very useful for podcasting, audio welcome messages, and I believe you can stream audio or music tracks from other websites too.
  • DeUncategorize: If you’ve followed SecretBlogWeapon’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) routines for your blog, you’d know that optimally you’d assign one category for each blog post. This’ll be so that the search engines spiders will see: “www.WhoIsAndrewWee.com/blogging/” and pick up “blogging” as a keyword and categorize it accordingly. Assigning multiple categories to a post will take away from the SEO benefits. DeUncategorize helps you by “unticking” the “Uncategorized” category the moment you assign a category (eg. Blogging) to your post.

Sociable

  • Sociable: This inserts links to the social bookmarking services like del.icio.us, blinkbits.digg and others (they’re about 25). I don’t use this extensive, though it’s covered in some detail in SecretBlogWeapon. I’d keep it to a maximum of 5, although I’ve seen some go hog wild, displaying more than 20. It can be quite an eyesore.

Here’re some blogging packages to consider if you’re planning to get more (especially income) out of your blogging:

  • AutoBlogIncomeGenerator: This is an auto blogging solution with revenue streams from both adsense publishing and affiliate marketing.
  • SecretBlogWeapon.com: I’m top affiliate for 3 months running (August,September,October 2006) for this product which I feel is a steal considering it combines elements of a niche research, SEO guide, blog optimization and social bookmarking tool in one blogging package (It’s advisable you get Ewen Chia’s Secret Affiliate Weapon to round out the package).

Traffic Generation Strategies Simplified http://whoisandrewwee.com/traffic-generation/traffic-generation-strategies-simplified/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/traffic-generation/traffic-generation-strategies-simplified/#comments Thu, 16 Nov 2006 10:24:48 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/192/traffic-generation-strategies-simplified/ I got an enquiry from Adam Wong, who has a successful blog at adam-wong.com.

Adam’s known for helping my buddy, millionaire entrepreneur Adam Khoo, launch his Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires product.

Take a look at this:

Adam Wong

Adam Wong clocked $9,000 in 2 weeks through his internet marketing efforts. Although I believe it’s a revenue figure, the net profit would be close to that because it’s Adam Khoo’s digital product at: Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires.

I was talking to Adam Wong the other night and he was asking about traffic generation strategies.

I believe traffic hasn’t been difficult to generate provided you have a traffic plan.

Jo Han and Ewen gave a great presentation at their Unstoppable Traffic workshop a couple of weeks ago and will be releasing a DVD set soon, but in the meantime, I’ll be doing a short series.

Traffic generation is, unfortunately, related to Search Engine Optimization. I don’t particularly like spending inordinate amounts of time figure out the optimal keywords, staring at keyword lists and spending all day insert meta and other HTML tags into my blog post. So I’ll cover the organic aspects of traffic generation.

  • Onsite Traffic Generation:

Blogging, hands down, is a great platform to begin with, compared to creating a static website.

Between Blogger/Blogspot and WordPress, I hear that Google just loves Blogspot and gives preferential positioning to blogger blogs in the SERPs (search engine results pages) (Though no one has exactly come out to say this publicly.). It probably helps that Google owns Blogspot.

I like WordPress though, because the plugins such as Popularity Contest, help level the playing field and give your blog a level of functionality and benefits that Blogspot blogs lack.

I plan to author a series on essential WordPress plugins that I’m using that should be in every WordPress bloggers arsenal.

If you are looking at profit-oriented blogging, be sure to check out SecretBlogWeapon.com for this amazing tool by blogger Gobala Krishnan. It incorporates a niche research guide, SEO optimization specifically for blogs and traffic generators.

  • Offsite Traffic Generation:

By targeting blogs and forums in your target niche (such Internet Marketing, golf, dog grooming, wedding planning), you can go outside of your blog and prospect for high targeted and relevant prospects.

For the Internet Marketing niche, I head to:

Blogs:

Forums:

My belief is that if you provide original content (even in a blog comment!) which:

  • provides value to the reader
  • deepens the conversation
  • provides resources to relevant posts or websites

You will be viewed as a good contributor.

As you demonstrate your knowledge and competence, you can expect visitors to your site.

Traffic generation is simple, isn’t it?

Your Internet Marketing Survival Depends on Your List http://whoisandrewwee.com/list-building/list-building-survival/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/list-building/list-building-survival/#comments Wed, 08 Nov 2006 17:55:40 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/181/list-building-survival/ I met with Super Affiliate Ewen Chia yesterday and he gave me some comments about my blog.

‘It’s humorous. It’s quite personal.’ he smiled and I could sense the sincerity of his compliments.

How big is your list?

“250?”

“Hmm…”

“And how many unique visitors do you get a month?”

“3000?”

“Hmm…”

We continued talking and here’s the one very vital lesson I picked up from my discussion yesterday.

And it will make the difference between your success and failure.

Your success depends on the size of your list.

Even if you had 100,000 visitors to your site every day, but you had a list of zero, sure you could try putting up a few offers on your website, or even better your blog.

But how are you going to do any follow up?

Blog about it and hope that your visitors come back in a day later? A week later?

You’d probably already have a loyal core of 10% of your visitors who are coming to your blog, hitting the “F5 – Refresh” button two or three times a day.

But you’d be losing out on the other 90% of visitors.

If you’re lucky, you’d have a 20-30% loyal readership core.

But if you miss this lesson, you’ll miss the boat to Internet Marketing success.

I can’t really tell you everything that Ewen told me, but I’d say that his ‘loyal core’ is much higher than the average. We’re not talking higher in terms of percentage, but higher in terms of magnitude.

Ok, here’s one thing. To achieve ‘super affiliate’ results, you need a minimum size of 5,000 list members.

Some of these strategies will be covered in the ‘Unstoppable Traffic’ (working title) DVD series from Jo Han Mok and Ewen Chia in a couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to announcing its launch then.

But what now?

I got some information from Louis Burlson (author of Publishing for Profit and eBook Creation Secrets) about a new list building program.

And it’s really powerful, because it builds what I call a ‘Super List Aggregator’ where you have the opportunity to broadcast messages to potentially hundreds of thousands of people and if you do it effectively, you can easily build a list of thousands or tens of thousands.

As far as I can tell, the product is still fairly new, so they’ve launched a number of incentives and membership is free.

Though I took the upgrade option and got a number of other bonuses which will help me build my list faster. The upgrade option comes with an ‘insiders list building’ book by Glen Hopkins.

Is the book any good?

Check out some testimonials the book has received:

“I have built my entire online business using list building and relationship
marketing strategies. Over the years, I have identified a select few experts in
this industry, and having met Glen Hopkins in person, I can tell he is the real
deal. Anyone looking to learn the power of list building needs to learn from
Glen. His strategies can help you double your profits in 90 days.”
–Mike Filsaime

“What you hold in your hands is an excellent email marketing playbook
covers the ins and outs of the game from beginning to end. It’s written
man who, having run a very successful co-registration business for many
years, probably understands email marketing as well as anyone on the
Follow the advice in this book and it could probably shave years off your
learning curve.”
–Mark Joyner
Three time #1 Best-Selling Author of The Irresistible Offer and more

And the testimonials go on, and on, and on.

The contents are pretty impressive, covering email marketing strategies, building a huge profitable list, various strategies to ensure a high conversion, and viral marketing, getting free organic traffic, etc.

You won’t get the book with the free membership though, so it probably will be good to consider upgrading to the paid option.

If you’d like to build your list and accelerate your list monetization efforts, you’d definitely want to check out List Lotto.
