TickMeUK-based Search Engine Optimization (SEO) specliast David Naylor has just announced the launch of his new Social Networking site TickMe (TickMe – New Social Networking Site).

Ok, so you may or may not be socially inept, but the fact is that TickMe can help you expand your network, project a different persona in your profile, or simply generate more traffic for your blog, website, portal.

I’m expecting that Terry from Kineda will be coming over very shortly to set up something. And we could use more pictures of Scarlett Johannson and Japanese Race Queens, can’t we?

TickMe’s interesting because there’s a system in place to protect your ego.

According to David:

It’s a bit like Myspace/Faceparty but with more privacy and a dating slant. It’s all very simple. Log in and “tick” someone you like the look of. They won’t know you’ve ticked them unless they tick you back and you get a mutual tick! Cut out all the nonsense and be sure that the people you’re communicating with are on the same wavelength.

That may be true, but if you you look at the profiles:

TickMe

I’m not sure how I feel about my birthdate going out to everyone, especially if you’re particular about privacy.

Inherent in the TickMe’s assumptions is that if you’re a male, you’re ‘looking to meet women’. I guess it could offer more customization to factor in gays and bisexuals in time?

Minor grouses aside, the traffic is awesome, especially the site having made Digg.

Key to establishing your social presence on TickMe is to colonize the virtual space. Like domain names, once your group name is gone, your group name is gone!
Here’s a snapshot of my group affiliations at 1am:

and 8 hours later

TickMe’s user growth at the launch is fairly viral. Tap on that traffic to use it effectively.

The group chat functions works quite well too.

You might be surprised at some of the Internet Marketing luminaries you see on the site too.

Kicking it with Kineda vodcasts http://whoisandrewwee.com/vodcasts/kicking-it-with-kineda-vodcasts/ http://whoisandrewwee.com/vodcasts/kicking-it-with-kineda-vodcasts/#comments Thu, 02 Nov 2006 10:01:45 +0000 http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/166/kicking-it-with-kineda-vodcasts/ I’ve been checking out Terry Ng’s Kineda blog for some time and finally had a chance to have a chat with the man.

Kineda’s ranked Google PR6, Alexa 31,379.

He’s also Alexa’s most popular Asian-American Arts and Culture site.

Kineda.com

If you’re not already familair with Kineda, here’s some background:

  • It was created December 29, 1997
  • Focus: Entertainment, Lifestyle, and Pop Culture
  • Sports a bold and provocative look and format

Kineda is fronted by San Francisco-based founder Terry Ng and Tami Andres.

And a short time ago, Kineda started offering vodcast (video blogcasts) presented by the effervescent and charismatic Tami. Check out: Tami’s vodcast.
Kineda vodcast - Tami Ng

I had a chance to pose some questions to Terry about his popular entertainment portal.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Hey Terry, thanks for taking the time out today. I was wondering how’d Kineda get it’s name?

Terry Ng: Ever hear of Akira? Created in 1988, it’s one of the most popular anime (Japanese animation feature) of all time.

The animation quality was highly advanced for it’s time. Kaneda is the motorcycle gang-leader in the movie. I adapted the name, and created Kineda with an “i” instead of an “a” since it fit better with the branding I wanted to create for the site.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: How’d and when did you decide to start offering vodcasts?

Terry Ng: Kineda started offering vodcasts about two months ago. Vlogging and vodcasting is still in it’s infancy, and I like to keep Kineda on the cutting edge of web design and technology.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Tami’s vodcasts seem quite popular. How’s the reception been?

Terry Ng: The format fits perfect with our audience, and video allows our audience to get to know us in ways words can’t describe.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Are you guys producing content on a regular schedule?

Terry Ng: We decided on a weekly format, but time constraints have prevented us from keeping on this strict schedule. Hopefully, that changes as we get into the rhythm of things.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Being on the cutting edge, do you see any particular trends in blogs or portals? There seems to be a move towards richer media.

Terry Ng: The biggest trend I’ve seen is that bloggers are beginning to see how much power we have as individuals. There are tons of resources available to get your personal message out that was unavailable just a few years ago. Bloggers are also realizing how much good design and SEO can expand their market reach.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: That’s empowering to hear. By the way, any plans to offer podcasts (AKA audio blogging)?

Terry Ng: I fiddled with the idea of podcasts, which is a great medium, but being a one-man show, I needed to decide on one format. Based on our audience, I felt vodcasts would be much more interesting. If a picture is worth a thousand words, video is worth millions.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Is it easy to do a vodcast? What kinda equipment or software do you use for editing?

Terry Ng: Vodcasts are extremely easy to create. People are always asking if they need the latest HD quality video camera for $3000, and I tell them “no.” Video for the web is really low quality at this point, and pretty much anyone with a consumer home video camera, and some simple software can create a vodcast.

I’m using iMovie and Final Cut Pro. I suggest beginners start with the former since the learning curve is much easier than Final Cut Pro.

[Andrew’s Note: iMovie and Final Cut Pro are Apple-only software. I’d recommend looking at Sony Vegas Video or Adobe Premiere for PC users]

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Are vodcasts easy to set up? How long does it take to put one together?

Terry Ng: A short 2-3 minute video will usually take me about 30 minutes to edit into a final product.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Who does the scripting? Pre-production? and post?

Terry Ng: So far everything we’ve done has been on the fly. I’m a firm believer that vodcasts should be different from TV shows. High quality editing and pre-scripting is great, but people on the web really like spontaneity.

Combining vodcasting and blogging also creates an open dialogue with our audience.

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: It’s encouraging to hear that. I was kinda overwhelmed by the idea of vodcasting because of my idea of the resources and commitment involved. What’s on the cards for Kineda’s vodcasts?

Terry Ng: Interviews, skits, event coverage and other cool episodes are on the way.

I can’t tell you much more, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Thanks for your time. Any other stuff you might like to add?

Terry Ng: Thanks for the opportunity and if anyone is looking for a blogging and affiliate marketing guru, Andrew is your man!

WhoIsAndrewWee.com: Thanks Terry, you have a good day!
