{"id":193,"date":"2006-11-16T18:25:38","date_gmt":"2006-11-16T10:25:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/193\/killer-wordpress-plugins-part-1\/"},"modified":"2006-11-16T18:39:40","modified_gmt":"2006-11-16T10:39:40","slug":"killer-wordpress-plugins-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/whoisandrewwee.com\/wordpress-plug-ins\/killer-wordpress-plugins-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Killer WordPress Plugins Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s an extension of my earlier traffic generation post and I&#8217;ll go through some of the plugins I use on this blog.<\/p>\n<p>Used correctly, you will rank highly on the blog directories and aggregators like <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Technorati\" href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\">Technorati <\/a>and <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Bloglines\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloglines.com\">bloglines<\/a>, and the results pages on the trinity of search engines (Google, Yahoo! and MSN Search or Live.com).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;re five of my favourite WordPress plugins:<\/p>\n<p><img title=\"blog comments and related posts\" alt=\"blog comments and related posts\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/images\/blog0611\/blogcomments.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><!--adsense#wide--><\/p>\n<p>Ready? Here goes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Subscribe to Comments\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/wordpressplugins\/wpSubscribeToComments-1-5.zip\"><strong>Subscribe to Comments<\/strong><\/a>: One of the easiest plugins to set up and configure, this plugin sends an email notification to a blog reader when there&#8217;s a response to their comment. Good for encouraging return traffic and promoting discussions. You might expect 1 or 2 additional visits, and perhaps more if there&#8217;s a healthy discussion.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Related Posts\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/wordpressplugins\/related-posts-2.02.zip\">Related Posts<\/a><\/strong>: I had been looking for this plugin for some time before I located it. It does a search of your blog content and appends a list of posts which might have related content. Again a blog visitor would likely be interested in the related posts and read them. There&#8217;s another plugin <a title=\"Terong related\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/wordpressplugins\/terong_related.php\">Terong related<\/a> which gives you manual control over selecting the related posts, but with 300+ posts, it&#8217;s quite a bugbear and I can live with the small margin of error Related Post comes up with sometimes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"audioplayer_container\"><span style=\"display:block;padding:5px;border:1px solid #dddddd;background:#f8f8f8\" id=\"audioplayer_1\">Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/shockwave\/download\/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&amp;promoid=BIOW\" title=\"Download Adobe Flash Player\">here<\/a>. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\">AudioPlayer.embed(\"audioplayer_1\", {soundFile:\"aHR0cDovL3d3dy53aG9pc2FuZHJld3dlZS5jb20vYXVkaW8vYXVkaW8tcGxheWVyLWludHJvLm1wMw\"});<\/script><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Audio Player\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/wordpressplugins\/audio-player.zip\">Audio Player<\/a><\/strong>: One of the best plugins available. It allows you to play MP3 tracks. Very useful for podcasting, audio welcome messages, and I believe you can stream audio or music tracks from other websites too.<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" title=\"DeUncategorize\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/wordpressplugins\/deUncategorize_1.0.zip\"><strong>DeUncategorize<\/strong><\/a>: If you&#8217;ve followed SecretBlogWeapon&#8217;s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) routines for your blog, you&#8217;d know that optimally you&#8217;d assign one category for each blog post. This&#8217;ll be so that the search engines spiders will see: &#8220;www.WhoIsAndrewWee.com\/blogging\/&#8221; and pick up &#8220;blogging&#8221; as a keyword and categorize it accordingly. Assigning multiple categories to a post will take away from the SEO benefits. DeUncategorize helps you by &#8220;unticking&#8221; the &#8220;Uncategorized&#8221; category the moment you assign a category (eg. Blogging) to your post.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img alt=\"Sociable\" title=\"Sociable\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/images\/blog0611\/sociable.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--adsense#wide--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Sociable\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whoisandrewwee.com\/wordpressplugins\/sociable-1.2.zip\">Sociable<\/a><\/strong>: This inserts links to the social bookmarking services like del.icio.us, blinkbits.digg and others (they&#8217;re about 25). I don&#8217;t use this extensive, though it&#8217;s covered in some detail in SecretBlogWeapon. I&#8217;d keep it to a maximum of 5, although I&#8217;ve seen some go hog wild, displaying more than 20. It can be quite an eyesore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;re some blogging packages to consider if you&#8217;re planning to get more (especially income) out of your blogging:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>AutoBlogIncomeGenerator<\/strong>: This is an auto blogging solution with revenue streams from both adsense publishing and affiliate marketing.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Secret Blog Weapon\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.secretblogweapon.com\">SecretBlogWeapon.com<\/a><\/strong>: I&#8217;m top affiliate for 3 months running (August,September,October 2006) for this product which I feel is a steal considering it combines elements of a niche research, SEO guide, blog optimization and social bookmarking tool in one blogging package (It&#8217;s advisable you get Ewen Chia&#8217;s Secret Affiliate Weapon to round out the package).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s an extension of my earlier traffic generation post and I&#8217;ll go through some of the plugins I use on this blog.
