Hey gang,
In case you’re not aware, I’ll be moderating a panel on Effective Social Media Marketing at Affiliate Summit West 2010 in Las Vegas, which will be from Jan 17-19, 2010 at the Rio Hotel.
My fellow panelists are:
- Rebecca Kelley, Director of Social Media, 10e20
- Keith Plocek, Social Media Manager, Mail.com Media Corporation
The long version of our session was originally “Social Media: How to break it, how to make it work” where we’ll break social media into its base components then show you how to effectively brand yourself and/or your business/product/service.
Speaker contracts are still coming in, so the final conference track agenda isn’t out yet, but here’s some of the highlights from what I see:
- Using product datafeeds for your affiliate sites (moderated by Scott Jangro)
- Coupon sites + troubleshooting (with Flamingo World‘s Connie Berg among the panelists)
- Blog monetization (with Kristin “MadHatter” Kinsey and Sunshine Rewards‘ Tricia Meyer)
- A super affiliate video promotion panel (with Jeremy Palmer and Ros Gardner)
- Wil Reynold‘s perpetually popular SEO session
- SEO site clinic by the women of SEO (with Marketing Demons‘ Kate Morris, and although her name hasn’t appeared yet, I hear that Sugarrae will be on the panel too)
Note: I’ve truncated/renamed the session names, so I didn’t have to write a synopsis of each session. The conference agenda contains the actual names for the sessions.
The summit will also feature 2 keynote speakers: Dr Robert Cialdini (author of the influential work “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion”) and Brian “Copyblogger” Clark.

Besides the opportunity to listen to some of the experts in the affiliate, traffic generation and internet marketing industry share their thoughts, and visit probably the biggest tradeshow floor featuring all the major affiliate networks, the biggest takeaway from the summit has been networking with fellow affiliates and getting insights you wouldn’t find in any book, course or teleseminar/webinar.
In fact, about 3 of my major projects in the last year have originated from discussions at the summit (I had met 2 of my partners in online forums/blogs before meeting them face-to-face).
Here’s some sweeteners to help you make the decision to go:
- Coupon code “ASW10WEE” (good for 10% off any type of conference registration)
- Important: Early bird pricing ends TODAY – prices double from 20th Oct, then nearly double again on-site
If you are planning to come for the event, you have about 6 hours to register for the early bird pricing.
Head to Affiliate Summit (and remember the “ASW10Wee” discount code)
In fact, early bird pricing ended yesterday š Today is 20th, low pricing was available until Oct. 19 š
“SEO site clinic by the women of SEO (with Marketing Demonsā Kate Morris, and although her name hasnāt appeared yet, I hear that Sugarrae will be on the panel too)”
You definitely heard wrong, LOL. I will be doing a SEO site review panel with Michael Gray, Michael Streko and Greg Boser. I personally would have been offended to be asked to be on that panel. I’m on a panel because I’m good at what I do and not because I wear a bra. I’m not knocking the skills of any of the ladies appearing on that panel, I don’t know of their skills or lack thereof as I’ve never worked with them. But, I’ve made my opinion on needing to be acknowledged as “women in SEO” pretty clear and find the whole idea of the panel a bit gimmicky and a bit of a put down, as if there needs to be a “all female panel” to get smart women on stage.
Just reading your reply to that makes you sound like you have some strong issues about how equal you feel. Don’t think I ever heard anyone defend their position like that… a simple “I won’t be on the panel” for most people would have been enough.
Jason, if you think for one second I have issues that I don’t feel “equal” to men, then you obviously don’t know me or anything about me, trust me LOL. š
pff, you dont even have a wikipedia page.
to think that you made or didn’t make the panel based on your plumbing isnt something anyone should strive for
Hello! Thanks for the mention Andrew. It should be a great time. Scott Polk asked Carolyn Shelby, Lyndsay Walker, and myself to do “something different,” an all female SEO site review. While I get Rae’s point of view and respect it, I don’t see any reason not to do this panel. Being all women shouldn’t be any different from any other panel, no matter what it is called. It’s just another way to spin an SEO site review.
I would love to have Rae on this panel (or even Rhea from Outspoken), but she will be with some other great minds sharing SEO insight with the attendees at the show. I’ll look forward to attending that panel, as I always enjoy panels with Rae, Boser, Graywolf, and Streko. They are all very intelligent and witty. I always end up cracking up during their panels, ex. Ask the SEOs at SMX East, that was an awesome one.
Thanks again Andrew!
I’ll definitely be sitting in if you’re moderating. See you in Vegas!
“Being all women shouldnāt be any different from any other panel”
That was my point Kate… we aren’t calling ours “Three Guys and a Lady SEO Clinic” … aside from the obvious reason of me not being a lady (haha) it just seems to dilute the assumed talent of the panel members.
“That was my point Kate⦠we arenāt calling ours āThree Guys and a Lady SEO Clinicā
…I actually think you SHOULD call your panel that. Naturally, Graywolf would play the part of the lady. :p
hahahahaha!!!
@Rae
Whoops. My bad.
I’ll be getting my hearing checked.
I missed your session in Vegas this past Jan and hope to make your session this time round.
@Kate
Tks for weighing in.
At the time of this post, there wasn’t a lot in the conf agenda yet, so it’ll be interesting seeing cshel and the others in your session.
I originally had planned to have Rhea on my panel, though Affiliate Summit has a policy of one speaker per company, so that plan was borked.
Will be looking forward to checking out the demons…
I’m definitely sitting down for our dinner at the Paris!
Seeya soon!
Aw, one per company? No fair. š
