Affiliate Summit East 2009 Preview and Highlights

One of the benefits of affiliate marketing is having a dedicated tradeshow/seminar each year, organized by Shawn Collins and Missy Ward. The upcoming Affiliate Summit East in New York city in July promises to raise the bar higher.

Having attended the Affiliate Summits since 2007, it’s amazing to see how Shawn and Missy have continued to raise the bar with each event. The increasing attendee numbers are testament to this.

In addition to invite industry leaders to present, the Affiliate Summit adopts a charity each show, raising donation to the worthwhile cause. The charity partner for ASE is Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City.

The ASE will see TWO keynote sessions presented by social media specialist Chris Brogan and Help A Reporter Online (HARO) founder Peter Shankman.

In addition to the keynotes, the tradeshow where many of the major affiliate networks, CPA networks, merchants and service providers are represented, there’s a 3-day seminar tract for continuing education.

I looked at the seminar sessions and a couple of sessions stood out:

SEO (search engine optimization) sessions have been the exception, more than the rule, as the bulk of presentations were previously affiliate marketing focused. However, the past year has seen more marketers who’re specialists in SEO, such as SugarRae and Oilman from the past affiliate summits.

This coming ASE will see Michael Gray AKA Graywolf speaking at one of the sessions.

I’m looking forward to the show. Not only is it in my hometown, but there’s an amazing lineup of speakers and the list isn’t even complete yet! Plus, a Yankees/ Red Sox faceoff the weekend of the show? It doesn’t get better than that! Will we be seeing you there?

    Hi Dina,
Wow, I didn’t realize you were from NY.

I’d love to be there, unfortunately, as my wife is expecting our second child at that time. Being able to get out there is going to be a little challenging…

I guess that could be considered slightly more important than a conference, so I’ll let it slide. Congrats! When is she due?

    – Hi Kasandra! Thanks for the comment. Aside from other beinefts of film the real joy is that there is very little that is done to them when they get back from the lab. I use Richard Photo Lab in LA. I’ll be honest and say that I’ve tried many other labs as well and years ago I used a great lab in San Francisco called New Lab that went out of business. Richard Photo Lab is above and beyond the best option out there (other than maybe in NY) that I have found. I ship them the film and about 7-10 business days later I get a link to download the files. I edit my selects using the rating system in Bridge and I open each file individually. Typically the most I’ll ever do is adjust the levels a tiny bit and I might dodge/burn here or there but I only spend a few seconds with each file. Then I re-size them in Bridge so they are web-ready and that’s it. It’s pretty wonderful to save hours and hours of processing and on top of that I think the results are better than when I shoot digitally. However, it’s a trade-off because it’s a slower process and it’s expensive to buy and develop film. I’m finding though that I’m moving more towards film this year than other years. It’s all relative so it might not work the same for you. The most important thing is to shoot film often or you won’t see the beinefts. I’d say that you need to shoot at least 30 rolls to get started. Hope this was helpful!

That’s a shrewd answer to a tricky question
