Search Engine Optimization and Google PageRank Update

This is an “after the fact update”.

A contact mentioned that Google had updated Toolbar PageRank ratings last week.

I hadn’t noticed changes on my blog, but some of my content sites have done from PR3 to PR4. Fairly decent consider that they’re a little over 6 months old.

As mentioned in previous PageRank-related posts, take note that Toolbar PageRank is different from your Live PageRank which is registered at the datacenters and determine how frequently your site is indexed by the search engine spiders.

You can find out your Toolbar PageRank by installing the Google Toolbar.

But more effective than the Toolbar PR, which some would say is ‘old PR’ is the live PR, which can be accessed through the Live PR datacenter check.

Backlinks (one way links to your blog or website) determine PageRank.

If you haven’t already, the following are some of the methods to generate backlinks:

  • Article Submissions
  • Press Release Submissions
  • Publishing RSS feeds
  • Participating in blogging competitions

For new Internet Marketers, starting a blog might be an easier prospect.

But if you’d prefer to focus on site design and your concept, you can consider buying a high PR text link from a website in a related niche.

I’d recommend Text Link Ads.

I guess it is high time for me to find out more about Google rankings and how I can up my rankings there. Currently, I do have some progress on technorati. I first started out with my ranking at over 500,000 and have now climbed to about 32,000 with more than 100 blogs linking to me. Is there a way to increase my links exponentially? More importantly, I hope to get more regular readers to my posts on marketing (both traditional and social media), service quality, lifestyle and events.

Will be adding a link to you soon Andrew. 😉

Tried the PR Checker for my blog and yours, and sure enough it appears that the toolbar update must still be in progress. Most of the centers reported in with a 5 for yours and a 3 for mine. If those are indeed what the final page ranks will be, then why are we both sitting here with zeros in the toolbar and from a couple of the datacenters. I guess what all this means is if your site is still a PR zero from even one of the datacenters, your toolbar ranking will show up zero? Be interested to see what you can find out.

Hi, as far as I’m aware, the toolbar PR update has concluded.

Live PR is dynamic and I would guess, depending on the location of the datacenter, your site could be spidered more frequently, or less freuqently.

You have PR based on your domain. Eg XYZ.com might have PR5, but the inside pages, for example, XYZ.com/intro.html might have PR0.

    Hey,

Thanks for replying but if the toolbar update is over, then how do you explain the fact that the index page of your blog and mine both have PR zeros in the Google toolbar page rank tool-which hopefully will change pretty soon. Whatever happens happens, so I guess it’s time to move on.

Excellent notable analytical attention to get fine detail and may foresee troubles before they will occur.
