Posting your Blogs for Maximum Internet Marketing Effectiveness

Deciding when to put a blog post is a factor often overlooked by some bloggers.

The time at which you post can have a great impact on your readership.

Do you think I’m crazy?

Take a look at your web stats.

Awstats is a good tool for web analytics (I’ll go into this in a future post).

By auditing your traffic patterns, you can first triangulate:

  • The core country for most of your readers (homeground)
  • How long they stay at your site (stickiness)
  • Which posts are they look at (content concentration)

If your core audience is from the US, you would want to take note of daylight hours in the US.

Business Blogs

Depending on the traffic pattern, you might like to post at the start of the day (useful if you have business-related or Internet Marketing information) because profit-oriented bloggers wil be scanning your blog during work hours.

Leisure Blogs

What if you’re one of those bloggers who posts bikini babes, Japanese Race Queens and Girls Gone Wild type pictures and videos?

It’s likely your core audience will be reading your blog after they get home. Maybe after dinner.

Posting at between 5pm and 8pm could be your blog prime time (and pull your core audience from the idiot box).

The Impact

If your core audience is caught at their optimal time, you will see a higher conversion rate in both your Adsense and Affiliate Marketing income.

You’d want people clicking on your ads when they’re fully awake and most response to sales letters.

Doing updates at 2am is tantamount to blog suicide.

Unless you’re targeting insomniacs, in which case, keep it up!

But don’t count on me to read it.

Capturing two Continents

What if your core audience is split across two continents, such as the US and Asia?

It’s a simple process to devise two blog posts per day, one targeting the optimum period for each continent.

For business content, maybe put up your posts at 8am at GMT+8 to capture Asian traffic and 8am at PST for the US market.

For leisure content, make the adjustments to off-work hours accordingly.

By strategically planning your posting schedule, you extract maximum value for your content.

If necessary, use post scheduling to help you achieve optimal effectiveness.

If there’s interest, I’ll go into the areas which will severely bring down the credibility of your blog. Sad to say, but more than 50% of bloggers are guilty of this.

    Dear Andrew;

I am new to internet marketing. This leaves a huge area of learning open to me. Your comments on blog posting time is one I have not thought of but makes sense. I live in Ottawa Canada which is EST (GMT-5). To date the blog posts have been random and the adsense minimal. Additional advice is appreciated.

An additional comment on John Reese’s “Blogrush”. I cannot get it to appear on the sidebar althought the widget and source code shows it in place. Have you heard of this and is there a mistake I am making, if so what is the fix?

I look forward to your comments. By the way my background is aviation i.e. retired pilot and planner. Is there any venue for an aviation activity? I own the right to “Enroute Aviaiton”, a good name.

    Best regards,
    Frank

Looking back, to do postdated posting, you should use a plugin like RSS2Blog.

Postdating your posts doesnt’ do much.

Blogrush: Don’t use it, wouldn’t recommend it.
I believe John has a support team in place.
