Busting Through The Internet Marketing Learning Curve

It’s a fact that no matter how smart you are there’s something out there you will not have got a handle on yet, and that’s where books and other learning material fill the gap.

books

What I like to do before heading to the US each time and order a bunch of books from Amazon and send it to my hotel.

Observer say we’re likely to be in the information economy for a long time to come, and a lot of times what separate you from your competitor is using one extra technique or website or service that they aren’t using. So every little bit of “intellectual juice” helps.

On this trip, among the books I’ve picked up were:

  • WordPress for Dummies
  • Instant Income by Janet Switzer
  • Blogging Heroes: a series of interviews with bloggers
  • Various titles from the Dan Kennedy “No BS” series of business books

I fall into the trap sometimes of having the books in hand, but not putting in the time to read them, and by extension putting the knowledge into action.

Being successful is hard work…and not putting in Continue reading

What’s Keeping You From Making More Money Online?

I got an email from Missy who owns G34media, a small network of 4 blogs and she asks:

Hi—Andrew:

I found your blog through a post on “How to Make Money Online” over at ABW.

This post caught my attention, as im suppose to be working right now, and instead im at your blog procrastinating.

I would say i have a —fear of success— not failure. It is the classic “middle class syndrome”.

My modus operandi is that i tend to take on too much, right now im managing 4 blogs. Plus i get paid to write on another.

Sometimes i want to chuck some of the blogs, and just concentrate on one, but then i feel like im giving away future income.

What thoughts have you on my blog network?Should i concentrate on one or two blogs and sell the others, or just keep them, and write when i can.

Would love feedback from you.

Missy.

I’m not sure if Missy expected that it’d become a full-fledged post, but I think many internet marketers are in a similar situation.

Here’s my take:

Procrastination is something that happens if we don’t have a clear goal/outcome in mind, and may not have a game plan in hand.

If you don’t have visibility of what you are going to achieve (like getting into your car and not having a destination in mind), it’ll be natural that you might wander around aimlessly (eg. spend endless hours in forums, reading blogs, filing a twitter every 5 mins) – yes, you’re right, you are a digital slacker.

Just think back for a moment about why you got into internet marketing?

To spend more time with the family? To generate multiple time what you’re earning now? To achieve financial freedom?

I don’t know about you, but Continue reading

Dealing With Internet Marketing “Failure”

I’ve discovered that one of the biggest obstacles and causes of procrastination, especially when it comes to new and experienced internet marketers starting a new project is fear.

What type of fear?

Besides your every day “I don’t know how to do the technical aspect” (solution: go hire a programmer), or “I don’t have money” (solution: find a partner who will put in the funding, while you put in the sweat equity, or do a cash advance/take a payday loan) , the biggest fear is the fear of failure.

fear of failure

I think this goes beyond internet marketing and into the realm of entrepreneurship.

As a business owner, you need to realize that you are responsible for your businesses success or failure.

If you continue to see the cup as “half empty” rather than “half full”, or better yet, as a glass that will be filled with water soon, your mindset will influence how confident you are, and the actions you take.

If you want to look at a picture of confidence, go read my buddy Amit Mehta’s SuperAffiliateMindset blog.

One of the secrets to success I got access to during my days as a business newspaper report is Continue reading

Watch Out For Rachel Rofe – Coming Soon Near You

rachel rofeOne of the smartest Internet Marketers I’ve met in my journey thus far, has to be Rachel Rofe.

I first met Rachel on the Warrior Forum when I purchased her WSO (Warrior Special Offer). For a new Internet Marketer then, she certainly put out a great product on niche research, keyword strategies and putting your marketing campaign together.

A Drexel/UPenn grad, she’s also a member of the Phi Eta Sigma honor society, so I guess you might say we’re fellow “nerds”.

But then again, I think she’s a tough chick (can I say that?), having made a looong road trip from Philadelphia to LA to pursue her Internet Marketing goals.

She already has a successful membership site under her belt, YayFood – a caloric cycling/weight loss/weight management community – which has been featured in Women’s World magazine.

Although I’ve not met her yet, I have an intuition that she’s pretty hyper – going by her blog postings, and her penchant for T Harv Eker’s seminars and workshops.

She’s currently hanging out in LA, leading the Sex and the City Lifestyle (set in LA, rather than Manhattan) – getting hit on by Cuba Gooding Jr. (We’re still waiting for that follow up post, Rach…)

And hamming it up with the likes Continue reading

Bump Your Internet Marketing Expertise With Podcasts

In addition to producing my own Friday Podcast series, a major source of information for me is listening to audio programs and podcasts.

I probably spend about 1-2 hours each day driving and where I used to listen to music, then later switched to listening to news programs like the BBC, I’ve since switched to listening to podcasts a couple of months ago.

Why listen to podcasts? I personally would absorb more information out of a book, especially since I like to mark them up, but a podcast is a good way to multi-task, especially if you’re short on time and a great way to find something to do while you’re driving, exercising (I’m shooting for at least 2 hours of exercise a week to fight the flab), or while cleaning my desk or doing paperwork.

My personal preference is to go for programs with useful content, although I do like the occasional “talk radio” style podcast with hosts who are doing a “Seinfeld” (ie a podcast about nothing…) but generally that doesn’t take up more than 5% or 10% of my listening time.

If a podcast contains very good information, I’ll make a mental note to go through it again and take down notes.

Here’re some of the podcasts which I listen to and Continue reading
