Planning for your Internet Marketing Success and Avoiding Failure

The major problem why many fail at Internet Marketing has to do with a lack of systems.

Increasingly over the last couple of weeks I’ve received emails along the lines of:

I earned a couple of hundred dollars over the past few weeks using XYZ adsense system from XYZ guru. All of a sudden, the product doesn’t work anymore. What happened?

Or

I used this affiliate marketing product and surprised myself by racking up 30 sales in my first month. Now I’m getting 1 sale a week. I’m never going to be able to quit my day job and go fully into Internet Marketing

It’s a constant refrain and I can understand the situation that many are going through.

During my first couple of months in Internet Marketing, I was pretty psyched too, especially when my sales were doubling every month, from $1,500 the first month, to $2,500 the next month. And it just seemed like sales were set to continue doubling every month. Each time I sent out an email, it was just a matter of waking up in the morning and refreshing my payment processor screens to see the sales flying in.

I was really feeling happy till three days went by without sales.

Then a week. I was getting really concerned.

Then a couple of sales came in, but nowhere near the phenomenal level I had seen starting out, where seeing $500 a day in net profit seemed to be business as usual.

Going from my high earning days to consecutive days of zero sales was demoralizing.

It was only when I discovered Continue reading

Entering the Year of the Golden Pig (and Earning Internet Marketing Income from it)

18th February was the first year of the Chinese New Year and we’ve entered the year of the pig, according to the Chinese 12 Year Animal Astrological cycle.

This year is expected to be an especially prosperous one, since it’s a “Golden Pig” year. As I understand it, a “Golden” year comes about every 5 cycles (With each cycle comprising 12 years, that’s once every 60 years).

Chinese typically take the first three days of the Chinese New Year off (and they work for the next 362 days of the year…).

What’re the implications for Internet Marketing? Continue reading

Borat Teaches Internet Marketing!

I don’t know how I missed this, it was a sad oversight on my part.

The guys at WickedFire mentioned that Khazakh journalist (ie from Khazakstan) Borat Sagdiyev, star of “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” was branching out into Internet Marketing.

Needless to say I was shocked.

Borat is already such a popular television personality, he is sure to raise the bar for the rest of us.

In fact, he’s already launched his first instructional clip and unleashed it on YouTube.

You can check it out Continue reading

Reader Questions #1: How Tough Is Internet Marketing Initially?

Reader Darren Lim Asks:

Hi Andrew,

I’m just starting to get my feet wet with internet marketing and your website was 1 of the first I had visited through a chance of luck about 2 weeks back. Since then I had hummed and hawwed, tried to focus amidst the mountains of information set upon me, setup PPC campaigns that just netted me 1 sale and I still couldn’t focus on 1 plan of action with that much options swirling around me.

Fast forward 2 weeks later and I find myself back at your blog and I decided.. why not see how you did when you first started and I went all the way back to dig your posts back in July 2006. Thats when I realised that it was all about focus and hardwork at the start which I’ve been unsuccessful in doing so far. I’d just like to ask, was it that tough for you initially?

Cheers
Darren

The short answer is that everyone always starts out hard before it becomes easy.

This sounds counter intuitive to computer game players because we’d usually set a game to level 1 before progressing to higher levels.

But if you think about it, the most difficult part of any task is Continue reading

Cheap Outsourcing Can Ruin Your Online Marketing Business

I had a frightful lesson in outsourcing today: You’ll need to keep tabs on the efforts of the people you’re outsourcing work to, otherwise it could be to the detriment of your business.

You may already know that in addition to this blog, I own a network of content sites.

internet marketing cookbook

In particular, Internet Marketing Cookbook has been one of my pet projects.

But in the past couple of months, with the activity surrounding Affiliate Summit West and a couple of new projects I was working on, I didn’t have time to manage all my sites.

So it seemed like a good idea to Continue reading

Affiliate Summit West – The One Secret To Your Online Success

I’ll be putting up the content from Affiliate Summit West over the next couple of days, but here’s the most important lesson I picked up from the affiliate managers and super affiliates I’ve been talking to.

You don’t already need more content than what you’ve already seen on their blogs and forums, but here’s the difference that makes a difference.

The major obstacle and stumbling block for 99% of online marketers is your mindset.

And it’s not something you can rationalize, but rather an emotional reponse.

Sure, all of us can think we theoretically earn a million dollars a month, but the question is whether you feel you have the ability and are motivated to achieve it.

If you have no expectations about your online earning potential, you’d likely be happy with earning $1.

But from there, whether you hit the $10/day, $100, $1,000 or $10,000 level all depends on the ‘glass ceiling’ you’ve set for yourself.

Internet Marketing is truly a mind game.

Because once you’d set your mind in motion, you will go all out to find the strategies to reach the next level.

Here’s my personal beliefs that will help you reach the next level:

  • Never Stop Learning

Things never stay the same. Expect change. And deal with it. Whatever doesn’t stop you will only create a barrier of entry for other.

  • Problem-centered or Solution-centered

Are you someone who’s apt to complain or get stressed when a problem arises.

If you shift to a solution-oriented approach when something happens and you’re able to deal with it sooner than the others, you’d have a headstart on your competitors.

  • Test, Test and Test

The first step is to take action, the second is to test everything. Never take anything for granted and you could see increases of 10-20% in your results.

The most important attribute, however, is persistence. If you work at something long enough, you might not get the same results you’re aiming for, but you’d be pretty close.
