Kickstart Your Blogging Business and Make Big Money: 7 Reality Checks

[This post is my entry for Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger Group Writing Project – Reviews and Predictions]

2006 was an interesting time for me as I plunged into Internet Marketing.

Although I didn’t have a clear idea in the beginning, it was very clear that the path of least resistance would be to go with blogging.

In the course of the last 5 months, I’ve had a series of interesting experiences and the questions I’ve dealt with appear to be common with all new bloggers, whether the questions originate from a blog, a forum, a blog network or a social networking site.

Here’s 2006 in retrospective in a FAQ format with money making tips and 7 Reality Checks for bloggers and internet marketers.
Blogging is Evil

  • Blogging Reality Check 1: Making Money from Blogging is Evil

I’m not sure of the intent of this often heard objection.

I guess some might have ‘pure/purist intentions’ and expect that blogging is some form of ‘cathartic release’ for heavy/philosophical/ponderous thinking.

I see blogging as a form of personal journalism. And Continue reading

ProBlogger’s $2,500 Blogging Competition

ProBlogger Reviews and Predictions“Competition” may not be the best way to describe ProBlogger Darren Rowse’s latest writing project.

That’s because Darren will be assigning the prizes worth $2,500 randomly to 10 lucky winners.

The last time round I set my sights on the $200 Amazon voucher.

This time round, the prizes look equally tantalizing, although I’d have to say my top Continue reading

10 Ways Killer Blog

Have a Voice

Having a voice personalizes your blog. The top blogs are read not so much for their factual content, but often the ‘spin’, interpretation or analysis of the facts.

You can choose to be informative, instructional, funny, maybe even Continue reading

Prepare Yourself for Massive Traffic and Prizes from ProBlogger

ProBloggerFresh off the press, I got news that Darren Rowse, AKA ProBlogger (or Gold Blogger as Yanik Silver likes to call him) is about to launch the next Writing Project, and it could be as early as next week.

I’d been asking him about the Writing Project when we were talking in October (as he was msging from a beach cafe while on vacation) (see: Talking with Darren Rowse – ProBlogger.net).

The project is finally here and participating in the last project brought a massive traffic spike to this blog, plus a number of the visitors have gone on to be regular readers too.

Besides the traffic, Darren’s also doing a random drawing of winners Continue reading

What Do Bloggers Look Like And What Do They Represent?

Tino Buntic’s What Do Bloggers Look Like is an interesting post.

Although we blog in isolation, we’re part of a larger blogging community.

Even if you choose to be a ‘deviant’ or ‘social outcast’, you have a ‘social outcast’ cliche too.

Which is why the montage is interesting. It bring together different bloggers from different segments together.

What Do Bloggers Look Like

You get to see a whole cast of different people, all churning out their thoughts on a frequency ranging from daily to weekly, to be archived by the search engines, as our entries get indexed.

A sort of virtual immortality if you will.

But what’s more interesting is Continue reading

A Picture Can Bring A Thousand Clicks

Besides purely doing text blogging, a blog can be spiced up by adding photos, graphics, audio content (podcast), videos and other forms of interactivity.

By mixing up the media, it creates a new experience for your visitors.

Here’s some tips if you plan to use photos:

  • Create Impact

Choosing the right photo, especially if it suits the theme of your post, (eg. matching a young bird to a post about newbie Internet Marketers) helps create a visual link between the content and the graphics.

For example, I might like to illustrate my Internet Marketing lifestyle:

Jimbaran

Jimbaran Beach, Bali, Indonesia

Walking along Jimbaran Beach every evening, as the sky changes from a amber to scarlet hue and as the sun sets behind the lush hills, I’m sitting on the beach, enjoying the slightly salty refreshing breeze, as I’m savoring the fresh local season, consuming calamari , lobster and prawns and enjoying the company of friends and family.

That was nice, wasn’t it?

For most blog templates, a photo works best if Continue reading
