Blog Tips From Super Affiliate Ros Gardner

I first got to know Ros Gardner through her book, the Super Affiliate Handbook, when I got started a couple of years ago.

So it was refreshing to hear her presentation at PPC Classroom Live! in Vegas last December where she talked about her network of sites, including her first foray into internet marketing, dating site Sage-Hearts.com.

[Incidentally, I was listening to a recording of the late Corey Rudl’s talk at Yanik Silver’s 30th Birthday Bash celebration about 5 years ago, where he was talking about Ros earning between $30,000 and $50,000 a month back then (which would’ve been about 2003!)]

If you didn’t make it to PPC Classroom Live! you would’ve missed out on the fact that most of her traffic is generated organically and free and her affiliate margins are pretty high.

What’s her secret? She primarily uses blogs as her online platform of choice, plus techniques – often overlooked by pure play SEO and PPC marketers – like email marketing and other social marketing techniques of choice.
Whether it’s her Net Profits Today, Sage Hearts or another site from her network, I’ve noticed that she’s primarily using WordPress.

It’s a good step that Anik Singal and Ros are launching the 2.0 version of Blog Classroom, so you can also check out how wordpress significantly reduces the learning curve to building your online presence (especially if you’re technicially-deficient like me.).

Anik and Ros have put up a number of tutorial videos up, and you can check them out.

PS: My buddy, Amit Mehta and I will be conducting a series of training session to incorporate branding and monetization into your blogging efforts.

Note: must sign up via either of our blogs to qualify for the bonus.

Namecheap Domain Registration Discount Code And Video Developments

Here it is: the discount code this month at domain registrar Namecheap this month is “AprilShowers”. [works great in tandem with BlueHost shared webhosting]

I know it works because I just got a new domain there a couple of minutes ago. More on that later.

Just a note about “Super Affiliates”, I was chatting with Kim Rowley last night about marketing techniques and mentioned the power of video blogging and YouTube.

I wake up this morning and she’s posted a VIDEO product review post at her shopping site TechTheStyle.

If that’s not enough, her partner Pat posts a VIDEO followup a couple of hours later here. (I dig the window blinds which gives his video a “Max Headroom-ish” feel and I thought the timecode gave it a techy/industrial feel).

If you’re still suffering from “structured procrastination“, I say “bull-crud”, get off your behind and do something, instead of just wondering why folks like Kim and Pat are so “lucky”…

Back to the domain, I got a new one – AndrewWeeLive.com – the nice ones I was hoping for were taken already.

The site will be more personal in nature, a theme that I connect with, especially with the recent Sam Harrelson AffiliateFortuneCookie podcasts and the Scott Jangro “JangroCast” (should “JangroCast” be a new trigger term for “Sorry, Jangro“?)

It will also give me a reason to use my new MacBook as more than as just a paperweight.

Anyone have any tips/suggestions on getting started on the Mac?

Friday Podcast: Outsourcing Strategies With Agents Of Value’s Danny Sullivan

danny sullivanLeverage is the biggest kept secret for any successful internet marketers out there, and besides automating your business via autoresponders, databases and 1-to-many marketing strategies, you can also take a look at the human capital element (more commonly known as outsourcing or it’s industry name BPO (business processing outsourcing).

SEO Tip: Google Sitelinks = Clue To Authority Status?

I’ve been looking into this issue for some time, and noticed some trends in the results Google shows.

For “Andrew Wee” from a Singapore IP, here’s the result:

But if I do the same search using a US IP:

Structured Procrastination = Loss In Your Income

You might already be familiar with the survivability stats for new start-ups that are commonly cited by entrepreneurship evangelists…

Out of every 10 new start-ups every year, 5 of them will go belly-up in the first year.

Out of the survivors making it past year 1, another 50% of them will cease operations at the end of year 2.

And so on, until only the top 1% make it at the end of year 5.

[The stats are across all industries and according to the company registrars that help these companies and sole proprietorships incorporate]

I don’t exactly know the stats for individuals coming into internet marketing, but I think it could be something similar.

A case in point, I’ve helped sell coaching programs, where we work 1-on-1 with new internet marketers, or people who say they want to make a living on the internet. These guys shell out close to $10,000 a head to enroll in these programs. They’re all fired up in week 1, just raring to go.

You ask them to research 5 websites, they research 50. But somehow when it comes to implementing the project later in the program, there’s some resistance and inertia to getting started.

Some may blame “affluenza” or middle class syndrome. If there Continue reading

Twitter Hits Scalability Speedbump?

Perhaps it’s a sign of growing pains (good pains!), but a number of twitterers (i guess it’s a nicer term than “twits”) have mentioned that twits are not appearing in their twitter stream…which could be a concern for some, especially as twitters @ other users and direct messages are fast replacing email and IM for a number of the users.

I was a little surprised that some conversations seemed to be ending mid stream, till I went to the individual twitter stream (typically twitter.com/(username) ) and saw the continuation of our conversation there.

So, if that chatty blonde suddenly stops chatting, go over to her twitter page and see if she’s replied.

I’d also be prepared just in case “she” is a gold farmer/credit card collector over in Russia or China too…

As a form of consolation, twitter has posted an update that they’re recovering missing twits and will be inserting them into your twitter stream. If you’re a heavy volume twitter user however, it might be faster to check individual pages before the torrent or updates pushes the re-inserted twits off your archived pages.

Oh yes, Twitter gets my vote for “digital crack” for the more social among us. I think the Type As and the hack-and-slashers will be still hypnotized by Kongregate.
