Chris Hooley’s Reptilian Buy Button

Chris has put out an interesting post at The Reptilian Buy Button.

What’s a “Reptilian Buy Button”? Chris says:

If you hit them with a primal, instinctive emotion, they may connect with you deeper than just the initial click. They make fall in love with your brand, your image, or your culture and you might have just convince a new person to join your cult and buy every new product you launch.

I agree with Chris, and it’s (more…)

Internet Aftershocks from the Taiwan Earthquake

More than a week after the Taiwan earthquake which damaged a number of undersea optic fiber communications cable (see: Taiwan Earthquake Rocks Internet Marketing World), things are still not quite up to speed.

Although there is Internet connectivity in the 99% region, the available bandwidth has been affected. I estimate that in Asia (southwards of Taiwan) are probably at about 60%-80% of the pre-earthquake levels. I suspect the Internet Service Providers might be metering the bandwidth and skewing more resources towards corporates.

Although I have both cable modem and DSL connections, I’m finding that hosted applications (more…)

Riding on Free Backlinks (and Monetizing It)

I was looking through the comments for the previous post, and Char gave an example of her permalink structure, citing “domainname (dot) com / postname”.

For the record, domainname (dot) com is an actual domain. And it has a decent PR6, Alexa 153,000.

Imagine 500 bloggers or content publishers citing that example and reproducing the link  on their site every month…

That would add up to a significant number of backlinks would it?

And by extension, you can leverage on your Google PR by pointing at your other domains, or selling text or banner links through PlanetAndrea’s banner/text brokering services.

Sounds compelling, doesn’t it?

Blog Permalink Structure Optimization and Bringing Hordes of Traffic Over

I’m don’t go out of my way to do a lot of SEO, though I follow some basics such as having keywords in my URL.

It was a little shocking to find that my blog permalink structure was organized along the lines of /post ID/post title, resulting in URLs like http://www.WhoIsAndrewWee.com/214/meme-update.html.

Having the post ID (the numerical post identifier) has zero SEO value, so I changed it to /post category/post title, so it’d display as http://www.WhoIsAndrewWee.com/traffic-generation/content-based-posting.html.

Assuming your categories are optimized for appropriate keywords, the search engines will send you more targeted traffic.

One important caveat (more…)

Anatomy of A Successful Affiliate Marketing Campaign

Whether you’re focus on a pay per sale (like Clickbank) or pay per lead affiliate campaign (like Azoogle), the system is pretty much the same.

And if you’re using a system (with formalized processes), you’re much more likely to succeed.

Every campaign will be different and things may not go the way you’ve planned, even if you’ve adopted the best practises from an affiliate marketing system, whether it’s from a super affiliate like Ewen Chia or Ros Gardner or a system like Affiliate Project X.

Nothing quite beats having hands-on experience though because real world experience is the ‘bridge’ between what you read about, and the actual affiliate commissions you will earn.

There are a number of (more…)

Blogging Meme Reloaded

I didn’t realize a meme might be this fun.

Quite a number of my 9rules compatriots have taken part in the meme project and we have a nice discussion going on on Michael’s blog.

Check out:

Read the post to find out why you might be seeing “a lot of dead blogs” in June. And whether you agree or disagree, leave a comment on the post.

Michael is a community leader for the 9rules Anime Community and knows just about everything when it comes to Japanese Animation. Michael is pretty ace when it comes to blogging and swung for the fences in coming up with his post.

Is all well in technorati-land? Check out Michael’s post and take note of the conversation in the comments. (more…)
