3 Faces Of Success In PPC Affiliate Marketing

In the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to talk to 3 top PPC (pay-per-click) affiliate marketers. More than that, I’ve had the opportunity to gain insight into how they operate their businesses as well as set up and fine tune their PPC campaigns.

Although I shouldn’t have been that surprised, still it’s quite amazing how different their approaches are from each other. Which goes to show that there are multiple avenues to achieve your goals with PPC and affiliate marketing.

Note: I’ll be painting in broad strokes here, so expect some generalizations.

Jeremy Palmer is a name that comes up often, especially if you’re a Commission Junction (CJ) affiliate or if you attend the Affiliate Summit. I’ve found that Jeremy and I use a similar approach in looking at offline research avenues, including books, magazines and reports to research niches, and develop deep, content rich sites.

Given his experience as a web developer, I guess it’s not surprising that he tends to build sites from the ground up. Also, having presented and watched his Black Ink project unfold, I’ve seen how Jeremy uses a systematic approach to building his campaigns.

You can check out Jeremy’s appearance on the Friday Podcast.

Breaking Out Of The “One Trick Pony” Mindset

Shawn Collins has posted the seminar track presentations from Affiliate Summit Boston at the Affiliate Summit Blog, providing a wealth of resources and information for those in affiliate marketing as well as internet marketing.

pony

Going through the various topics, it’s easy to add more tools to your marketing arsenal. At the same time, it will be prudent to avoid falling into the “one trick pony” pitfall.

What does this pitfall involve? Given that the content comes from some of the brightest lights in the internet industry?

Falling into the trap of seeing and then believing that a buzz technology, whether it’s twitter, seesmic, SEOQuake, or some other keyword, analytics or social media tool is going to transform your business.

Is one technology, or a handful of technologies or “tricks” going to transform your business? Continue reading

jeremy palmerIn the affiliate marketing industry, top affiliate Jeremy Palmer ranks as one of the nicest and most competent people.

Earlier this year, I had a great Friday Podcast session with Jeremy and invited him back for another chat.

  • Creating “thick” (as opposed to thin) affiliate sites
  • How to invest in your niche to maximize your success and profit
  • How to create sticky and compelling sites
  • And too much great stuff to list here…

Geordie Carswell Steps Down As Revenuewire CEO

geordie carswellIf you use Pay Per Click (PPC) as a means of traffic generation for your websites, you’d have read blog posts by Revenuewire CEO Geordie Carswell over at the Revenuewire affiliate network.

It’s a loss for PPC marketers that Geordie will be stepping down as CEO on August 1st, though he will be continuing with Revenuewire on an advisory basis.

Geordie had published a number of tips and updates focused on utilitizing and optmizing Google AdWords since he started posting on the blog.

Perhaps as a sign of the changing of the guard, the blog format has been changed to something closer to an article directory – perhaps a sign that updates may not be as frequent either.

The Revenuewire CEO post will be filled by Continue reading

Friday Podcast: ShareResults Founder And CEO Nicky Senyard

This was one of the most enjoyable interviews I’ve conducted in the Friday Podcast series.

Nicky Senyard, originally from Australia, is an affiliate marketing veteran, having founded two affiliate networks – the ShareResults affiliate network and Income Access focused on online gaming.

I’ve known Income Access affiliate manager Jamie Fortunaso from the forums for close to 2 years and his professionalism has always been apparent. It’s no wonder that Nicky has created one of the most personable and enjoyable networks to work with.

During our discussion we covered a gamut of topics including:

  • Business considerations when merchants add affiliate marketing to their sales/distribution channels
  • How the affiliate-to-network and merchant-to-network relationships can be enhanced
  • Geographic growth of affiliate marketing opportunities across North America/Canada, Europe and Asia

Merchants and affiliates will get some great content out of this session.

Are Infoproduct Marketers Selling Their Souls In Major Affiliate Promotions?

If you’ve been watching the info product space, you’ll know that John Reese is launching a new version of his Traffic Secrets course on Jul 15th.

So every info product “guru” has been mailing their list for the last couple of weeks, trying to warm them up and maximize sales conversions on launch day.

greed

In common with other high profile info product launches, this typically results in a bonus offering frenzy, where short-sighted list owners will offer the farm (including the kitchen sink and their next born) in exchange for a product purchase through their affiliate link.

Just for the record, I’m referring to the affiliate promotions, not the core product.

It can get a little ridiculous when someone is offering you $1,000 or $10,000 or even $25,000 worth of “bonuses” for purchasing a $397 or $997 product.

Granted many of these bonus products may be virtual or digital in nature with zero stocking and zero duplication costs, but I think doing a hype-y promotion of this nature takes its toll – and it will extract a higher price than the 50% or 75% commission you might earn – it will affect your reputation.

If nothing else, this is pretty incestuous and unhealthy.

If you’re in the internet marketing or business opportunity niche for the long term, your reputation will Continue reading
